Inspection and Verification

  1. Verify the customer concern.
  2. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical or electrical damage.
    VISUAL INSPECTION CHART

    Mechanical Electrical
    • Multifunction switch
    • Ignition key
    • Ignition switch
    • Tilt/telescope switch
    • Circuitry
    • Rear battery junction box (RBJB) fuse 22 (20A)
    • Central junction box (CJB) fuse(s):
      • (5A)
      • 13 (5 A)
      • 17 (5 A)
    NOTE: For multifunction switch concerns, refer to one of the following articles:
  3. If the concern remains after the inspection, connect the diagnostic tool to the data link connector (DLC) located beneath the instrument panel and select the vehicle to be tested from the diagnostic tool menu. If diagnostic tool does not communicate with the vehicle:
    • check that the program card is correctly installed.
    • check the connections to the vehicle.
    • check the ignition switch position.
  4. Carry out the diagnostic tool data link test. If the diagnostic tool responds with:
  5. If DTCs are present, refer to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES for FEM-related DTCs, or INSTRUMENT CLUSTER for ICM-related DTCs.
  6. If no DTCs are present, GO to SYMPTOM CHART  to continue diagnostics.
