Removal and Installation

  1. Remove the driver air bag module. For additional information, refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM .
  2. NOTE: When installing the horn switch springs, to provide correct tension between the horn pad and the horn switch, install the yellow horn switch springs at the bottom of the horn switch pad and the silver springs at the top.
  3. Remove the 4 horn switch pad bolts, horn switch pad and horn switch springs.
    • To install, tighten to 6 Nm (53 lb-in).
  4. Remove the horn switch.
  5. NOTE: Do not remove the steering wheel bolt until the steering wheel has been separated from the column.
  6. Loosen the steering wheel bolt.
    • To install, tighten to 38 Nm (28 lb-ft).
  7. Using the special tool, separate the steering wheel from the steering column shaft.
    • Remove and discard the steering wheel bolt.
    • Remove the steering wheel.

  8. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
