Removal and Installation

CAUTION: Do not allow the steering column shaft to rotate while the intermediate shaft is disconnected or damage to the clockspring can result. If there is evidence that the shaft has rotated, the clockspring must be removed and recentered. For additional information, refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM .

Depower the supplemental restraint system (SRS). For additional information, refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM .
Remove the steering column opening reinforcement panel and the reinforcement. For additional information, refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL AND CONSOLE .
Remove the multi-function switch. For additional information, refer to STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES .
Remove the steering wheel. For additional information, refer to STEERING WHEEL in this article .
With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING & LIFTING .
Remove the intermediate shaft slider bolt.
- To install, tighten to 35 Nm (26 lb-ft).

NOTE: Install a new steering column-to-intermediate shaft bolt.

Remove and discard the steering column-to-intermediate shaft bolt.
- To install, tighten to 30 Nm (22 lb-ft).
Disconnect the electrical connector.

NOTE: Install 4 new steering column-to-instrument panel nuts.

Remove and discard the 4 steering column-to-instrument panel nuts and the steering column.
- To install, tighten to 30 Nm (22 lb-ft).
To install, reverse the removal procedure.
- Repower the supplemental restraint system (SRS). For additional information, Refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM .
