Pinpoint Test C: THE TILT AND TELESCOPE ADJUSTMENT ARE INOPERATIVE

- C1 CHECK CONTINUOUS DTCS
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Instrument Cluster Continuous DTCs.
- Are DTCs B2328 or B2332 present?
- Yes
: If DTC B2328 was retrieved, GO to PINPOINT TEST A .
If DTC B2332 was retrieved, GO to PINPOINT TEST B .
- No : GO to C2.
- C2 CHECK THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER PIDS
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Instrument Cluster Tilt PID and Telescope PID.
- Actuate the tilt/telescope switch to the tilt up, tilt down, telescope in, telescope out and neutral positions.
- Do the PIDS correspond correctly with all the switch positions?
- C3 CHECK THE TILT/TELESCOPE SWITCH FOR CORRECT OPERATION
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Tilt/Telescope Switch C2250.
- Carry out the tilt/telescope switch component test. Refer to COMPONENT TESTING for component testing.
- Is the tilt/telescope switch OK?
- Yes : GO to C4.
- No : INSTALL a new tilt/telescope switch. REFER to STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES . REPEAT the self-test. CLEAR the DTCs.
- C4 CHECK CIRCUITS 8-AL10 (WH) AND 9-AL10 (BN) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Disconnect: Instrument Cluster C220c.
- Key in ON position.
- Measure the voltage between the tilt/telescope switch C2250-1, circuit 9-AL10 (BN), harness side and ground; and between the tilt/telescope switch C2250-2, circuit 8-AL10 (WH), harness side and ground.
- Is any voltage present?
- Yes : REPAIR the circuit in question. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- No : GO to C5.
- C5 CHECK CIRCUITS 8-AL10 (WH) AND 9-AL10 (BN) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Key in OFF position.
- Measure the resistance between the tilt/telescope switch C2250-1, circuit 9-AL10 (BN), harness side and ground; and between the tilt/telescope switch C2250-2, circuit 8-AL10 (WH), harness side and ground.
- Are the resistances greater than 10,000 ohms?
- Yes : GO to C6.
- No : REPAIR the circuit in question. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- C6 CHECK CIRCUITS 8-AL10 (WH) AND 9-AL10 (BN) FOR AN OPEN
- Measure the resistance between the tilt/telescope switch C2250-1, circuit 9-AL10 (BN), harness side and the instrument cluster C220C-3 circuit 9-AL10 (BN), harness side; and between the tilt/telescope switch C2250-2, circuit 8-AL10 (WH), harness side and instrument cluster C220c-15 circuit 8-AL10 (WH), harness side.
- Are the resistances less than 5 ohms?
- Yes : GO to C7.
- No : REPAIR the circuit in question. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- C7 CHECK CIRCUIT 9-AL17 (BN/WH) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Key in ON position.
- Measure the voltage between the instrument cluster C220c-9, circuit 9-AL17 (BN/WH), harness side and ground.
- Is any voltage present?
- C8 CHECK CIRCUIT 7-AL17 (YE/VT) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Steering Column Position Sensor C222.
- Key in ON position.
- Measure the voltage between the instrument cluster C220c-19, circuit 7-AL17 (YE/VT), harness side and ground.
- Is any voltage present?
- Yes : REPAIR circuit 7-AL17 (YE/VT). CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- No : REPAIR circuit 9-AL17 (BN/WH). CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- C9 CHECK CIRCUIT 9-AL17 (BN/WH) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND OR AN OPEN
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Steering Column Position Sensor C222.
- Measure the resistance between the instrument cluster C220c-9, circuit 9-AL17 (BN/WH), harness side and the steering column position sensor C222-4, circuit 9-AL17 (BN/WH), harness side; and between the instrument cluster C220c-9, circuit 9-AL17 (BN/WH), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the instrument cluster and the steering column position sensor and greater than 10,000 ohms between the instrument cluster and ground?
- Yes : GO to C10.
- No : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- C10 CHECK FOR MOTOR MOTION SENSED
- Connect: Instrument Cluster C220c.
- Connect: Steering Column Position Sensor C222.
- Key in ON position.
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Instrument Cluster Steering Column Control Active Command.
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Instrument Cluster Telescope Position PID and Tilt Position PID.
- Trigger tilt UP, tilt DOWN, telescope IN and telescope OUT on, one at a time while monitoring the telescope position PID and the tilt position PID.
- Do the telescope position and tilt position PIDs read SENSED when the corresponding motors are triggered on?
NOTE: This active command will only power the motors for one second.- Yes : INSPECT the steering column position sensor and the instrument cluster connectors for loose or intermittent connections. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- No : GO to C11.
- C11 ISOLATE THE STEERING COLUMN POSITION SENSOR
- Connect: Instrument Cluster C220c.
- Key in ON position.
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Instrument Cluster Steering Column Control Active Command.
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Trigger Telescope IN On.
- Measure the voltage between the steering column position sensor C222-2, circuit 7-AL17 (YE/VT), harness side and ground during the active command.
- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
- Yes : INSTALL a new steering column position sensor. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- No : GO to C12.
- C12 CHECK CIRCUIT 7-AL17 (YE/VT) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND OR AN OPEN
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Instrument Cluster C220c.
- Measure the resistance between the instrument cluster C220c-19, circuit 7-AL17 (YE/VT), harness side and the steering column position sensor C222-2, circuit 7-AL17 (YE/VT), harness side; and between the instrument cluster C220c-19, circuit 7-AL17 (YE/VT), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms between the instrument cluster and ground and less than 5 ohms between the instrument cluster and the steering column position sensor?
- Yes : GO to C13.
- No : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- C13 CHECK FOR CORRECT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER OPERATION
- Disconnect all the instrument cluster connectors.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- pushed-out pins
- Connect all the instrument cluster connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
- Yes : INSTALL a new instrument cluster. REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- No : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
