Removal and Installation

CAUTION: Do not remove the power steering pulley from the power steering pump. The power steering pulley is not removable and damage to the pulley may occur.
CAUTION: While repairing the power steering system, care should be taken to prevent the entry of contaminants or premature failure of the power steering components can result.

    All vehicles 

  1. Remove the engine appearance cover.
  2. Remove the air cleaner and the air cleaner outlet tube. For additional information, refer to INTAKE AIR DISTRIBUTION & FILTERING .
  3. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING & LIFTING .
  4. Remove the LH front frame rail deflector shields.
  5. Rotate the tensioner and remove the engine accessory drive belt from the power steering pump pulley.
  6. 3.9L engine 

  7. Disconnect the air conditioning compressor electrical connector.
  8. Remove the power steering line retainer bracket bolt and position the bracket aside.

  9. Remove the 4 bolts and position the air conditioning compressor aside.
  10. All vehicles 

  11. Disconnect the reservoir-to-pump supply hose clamp and remove the hose.
  12. Remove the 2 lower pump bolts.
  13. Disconnect the pressure line fitting.
  14. Remove and discard the Teflon® seal.
  15. Remove the 2 upper pump bolts.
  16. 3.9L engine 

  17. Remove the 2 radiator hose tube-to-engine bolts.
  18. All vehicles 

  19. Remove the pump.
