Pinpoint Test E: DTC C1785: ELECTRONIC PARKING BRAKE (EPB) MOTOR OUTPUT OPEN CIRCUIT
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2005 Lincoln LS. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION:
Use the Flex Probe Kit for all test connections to prevent damage to the wiring terminals. Do not use standard multimeter probes.
- E1 CHECK CIRCUIT 32-CG19 (WH/VT) FOR AN OPEN
- Disconnect the battery. Refer to CHARGING SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION .
- Disconnect: EPB Module C4205a.
- Disconnect: EPB Actuator C4206.
- Measure the resistance between the EPB module C4205a-3, circuit 32-CG19 (WH/VT), harness side and the EPB actuator C4206-1, circuit 32-CG19 (WH/VT), harness side.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms
- Yes : GO to E2.
- No : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. RESET the EPB system. REFER to ELECTRONIC PARKING BRAKE (EPB) RESETTING in this article .
- E2 CHECK CIRCUIT 33-CG19 (YE/VT) FOR AN OPEN
- Measure the resistance between the EPB module C4205a-2, circuit 33-CG19 (YE/VT), harness side and the EPB actuator C4206-6, circuit 33-CG19 (YE/VH) harness side.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms
- Yes : GO to E3.
- No : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. RESET the EPB system. REFER to ELECTRONIC PARKING BRAKE (EPB) RESETTING in this article .
- E3 CHECK THE EPB ACTUATOR INTEGRITY
- Connect a fused (10A) jumper wire to the EPB actuator C4206 pin 6, circuit 33-CG19 (YE/VT), component side and to the positive battery terminal.
- Connect a fused (10A) jumper wire to the EPB actuator C4206 pin 1, circuit 32-CG19 (WH/VT), component side and to the negative battery terminal.
- Reverse the leads to verify the actuator operates in both directions.
- Does the EPB actuator operate in both directions
- Yes : INSTALL a new EPB module. REFER to PARKING BRAKE MODULE in this article . RESET the EPB system. REFER to ELECTRONIC PARKING BRAKE (EPB) RESETTING in this article . REPEAT the self-test. TEST the system for normal operation.
- No : INSTALL a new EPB actuator. REFER to PARKING BRAKE ACTUATOR in this article . CLEAR the DTCs. RESET the EPB system. REFER to ELECTRONIC PARKING BRAKE (EPB) RESETTING in this article . REPEAT the self-test. TEST the system for normal operation.
