Inspection and Verification
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2005 Lincoln LS. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Verify the customer concern by operating the EPB system.
- Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical or electrical damage. Refer to the following chart:VISUAL INSPECTION CHART
Mechanical Electrical - Parking brake cable(s)
- Parking brake actuator
- Parking brake shoes or related components
- Rear brake caliper
- EPB switch
- Front battery junction box (BJB) fuse 19 (30A)
- Central junction box (CJB) fuse 7 (5A)
- Connector(s) or connections
- Circuitry
- EPB module
- If an obvious cause for an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step.
- If the diagnostic tool does not power up, refer to the diagnostic tool manual.
- Carry out the diagnostic tool data link test. If the diagnostic tool responds with:
- SCP, ISO or UBP circuit faults; all electronic control units no response/not equipped, refer to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK .
- No response/not equipped for the EPB module, GO to PINPOINT TEST A .
- System passed, retrieve and record the continuous DTCs and carry out self-test diagnostics for the EPB module.
- If the DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to the ELECTRONIC PARKING BRAKE (EPB) SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) INDEX .
- If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, GO to SYMPTOM CHART to continue diagnostics.
