Test B: Set Speed Fluctuates
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Ford Pickup. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
After making any repairs, retest system for proper operation.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Remove speed control cable for speed control servo/actuator. Speed control servo/actuator is located on left side of engine compartment. Inspect core wire for damage. Pull on cable noting throttle movement. If speed control cable tests okay, go to next step. If speed control cable does not test okay, replace speed control cable, and/or repair throttle body linkage.
- Test drive vehicle and observe speedometer operation. If speedometer fluctuates, repair speedometer as necessary. See appropriate ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS - F150 Pickup article. If speedometer does not fluctuate, replace speed control servo/actuator and check system for normal operation. See SPEED CONTROL SERVO/ACTUATOR under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
