Removal and Installation

CAUTION: Suspension fasteners are critical parts because they affect the performance of vital components and systems and their failure can result in major service expense. A new part with the same part number must be installed if installation becomes necessary. Do not use a new part of lesser quality or substitute design. Torque values must be used as specified during reassembly to make sure of correct retention of these parts.
CAUTION: Make sure that the stabilizer bar and brackets do not make contact with the radiator or damage to the radiator can occur.
  1. Remove the engine cooling fan. For additional information, refer to INTAKE AIR DISTRIBUTION & FILTERING .
  2. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING & LIFTING .
  3. Remove the front and left side deflector shields.

  4. Remove the stabilizer bar bracket-to-crossmember bolts.
    • To install, tighten to 55 Nm (41 lb-ft).
    5. NOTE: 5. The hex holding feature can be used to prevent turning of the stud while removing the nut.
  5. Remove and discard the upper stabilizer bar link nuts.
    • To install, tighten to 55 Nm (41 lb-ft).

  6. Remove and discard the nuts, then disconnect the stabilizer bar links.
    • To install, tighten to 55 Nm (41 lb-ft).
  7. Remove the air conditioning line bracket-to-crossmember bolt.
    • To install, tighten to 9 Nm (7 lb-ft).
  8. Disconnect the air conditioning line retainer.
  9. Remove the air conditioning line. For additional information, refer to AIR CONDITIONING .
  10. Remove and discard the nut and bolt. Disconnect the left shock absorber and spring assembly.
    • To install, tighten to 175 Nm (129 lb-ft).

    11. NOTE: The hex holding feature can be used to prevent turning of the stud while removing the nut.
    NOTE: The tapered washer on the ball joint is reused with the new nut.

  11. Remove and discard the nut. Disconnect the left suspension lower arm.
    • To install, tighten to 200 Nm (148 lb-ft).
    12. NOTE: Deflect the LH lower control arm downward to ease removal of the stabilizer bar.
  12. Carefully remove the stabilizer bar through the left wheel well.
  13. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
