Wheel Knuckle - E550: Removal

- Remove the wheel and tire assembly. For additional information, refer to WHEELS & TIRES article .
- Disconnect the speed sensor electrical connector.
- Detach the sensor harness from the brake hose.
- Remove the bolts and position the caliper, pads and anchor plate aside.
- Remove the bolt.
- Remove the nuts, wheel bearing, hub and brake disc as an assembly.
- Remove and discard the cotter pin and nut.
- Using a suitable separator, detach the tie-rod from the wheel knuckle.
- Remove the upper knuckle cap and seal.
- Remove the lower knuckle cap and seal.
- Remove the lock pin retaining nut.
- Use a bronze drift to remove the lock pin.
- Using a bronze drift, drive out the spindle pin.
- Remove the knuckle, bearing and shim(s) from the axle assembly.
CAUTION:
Do not allow the brake caliper to hang from the brake hose or damage to the hose can result.
