Wheel Knuckle - E550: Installation

    NOTE: Pack the bearing and coat all mating surfaces of knuckle and axle parts with grease prior to assembly.
    NOTE: The bearing must be installed with the retainer lip facing down.
    NOTE: Use shims as required to maintain a 0.076-0.254 mm (0.003-0.010 in) axle-to-knuckle clearance.

  1. Position the knuckle, bearing and the shim(s) on the front axle assembly.
  2. Insert the pin into the axle until the notches in the pin and the holes in the axle are in line.

  3. Install the lock pin and the nut.

  4. Install the lower knuckle seal and cap.

  5. Install the upper knuckle seal and cap.

  6. Position the brake disc and wheel bearing onto the wheel knuckle and install the nuts.

  7. Position the caliper, pads and anchor plate and install the bolts.

  8. Install the bolt.

  9. Attach the sensor harness to the retainers.

  10. Connect the speed sensor electrical connector.

  11. Install the nut and cotter pin.

  12. Install the wheel and tire assembly. For additional information, refer to WHEELS & TIRES article .
  13. Check and, if necessary, align the front end. For additional information, refer to SUSPENSION SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION article .
