Removal and Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2005 Mercury Mountaineer and 2005 Ford Explorer. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
WARNING: All safety belt assemblies (including retractors, belt tension sensor [BTS] if equipped, buckles, shoulder belt height adjusters [if equipped], child safety seat tether attachments and attaching hardware) should be inspected after any collision. All new belt assemblies should be installed unless a qualified technician finds the assemblies show no damage and operate correctly. Belt assemblies not in use during a collision should also be inspected and new assemblies installed if either damage or incorrect operation is noted. Failure to follow these instructions could increase the risk of injury in collisions.
  1. Fold the 40 percent seat and position FORWARD.
  2. Remove the 20 percent seat outer latch trim cover and screws.
  3. Remove the bolt and the safety belt buckle.
    • To install, tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).
    • When installing the safety belt buckle, the anti-rotation tab must be correctly aligned in the seat frame for correct installation.
  4. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
  5. Check the active restraint system for correct operation. For additional information, refer to SAFETY BELT SYSTEM .
