Removal and Installation

NOTE: If the liftgate release handle is damaged, inspect the license plate shield. If the shield is damaged install a new license plate shield.
  1. Remove the liftgate trim panel. For additional information, refer to INTERIOR TRIM AND ORNAMENTATION .
  2. Position the watershield aside.
  3. Disconnect the liftgate handle actuating rod from the liftgate remote control.
  4. Remove the 4 bolts and the license plate shield.
    • To install, tighten to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft).

  5. Remove the 2 rivets and the liftgate release handle.
    • Use the special tool to install the rivets.
  6. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
