Pinpoint Test F: Loud Popping Sound From The Speakers

  1. F1 CHECK CIRCUIT 1003 (GY/YE) FOR AN OPEN AND A SHORT TO VOLTAGE 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Audio Unit C240b (DM100 or M100CD) or C290a (CD6).
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between the audio unit C240b-3 (DM100 and M100CD), or C290a-15 (CD6), circuit 1003 (GY/YE), harness side and ground; with ignition switch-in RUN and START positions.

    • Is no voltage present with ignition switch in the RUN position and greater than 10 volts with ignition switch-in the START position? 
    • Yes  : If equipped with CD6, GO to F2.

      If equipped with DM100 or M100CD, SEND the audio unit to an authorized audio repair facility. TEST the system for normal operation after the repair.

    • No  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  2. F2 CHECK CIRCUIT 168 (RD/BK) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Subwoofer Amplifier C466.
    • Key in START position.
    • Measure the voltage between the subwoofer amplifier C466-1, circuit 168 (RD/BK), harness side and ground.

    • Is any voltage present? 
    • Yes  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
    • No  : GO to F3.
  3. F3 CHECK THE AUDIO UNIT 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Connect: Audio Unit C290a.
    • Leave the subwoofer amplifier C466 disconnected.
    • Is the popping sound still present? 
    • Yes  : REMOVE the audio unit. REFER to AUDIO UNIT . SEND it to an authorized audio system repair facility. TEST the system for normal operation after the repair.
    • No  : Remove the subwoofer amplifier. REFER to AUDIO UNIT . SEND it to an authorized audio system repair facility. TEST the system for normal operation after the repair.
