Removal and Installation

WARNING: Windshield washer solution contains methanol, which is poisonous. Observe all cautions and warnings indicated on the label of the container. Failure to follow these instructions could result in personal injury.
CAUTION: When servicing the windshield washer pump be careful not to damage the windshield washer pump seal.
CAUTION: Do not operate the windshield washer pump before filling the windshield washer reservoir. Failure to do so could result in premature pump failure.

    All vehicles 

  1. Remove the air cleaner assembly. For additional information, refer to INTAKE AIR DISTRIBUTION AND FILTERING .
  2. Remove the RH front fender splash shield. For additional information, refer to FRONT END BODY PANELS .
  3. Disconnect the windshield washer pump electrical connector.

  4. Disconnect the windshield washer solvent level electrical connector.

  5. Remove the air conditioning (A/C) accumulator bracket-to-frame bolts.

  6. Vehicles with 4.6L engine 

  7. Remove the A/C accumulator-to-bracket nut and position the accumulator aside.

  8. Vehicles with 4.0L engine 

  9. Remove the radiator grille. For additional information, refer to EXTERIOR TRIM AND ORNAMENTATION .
  10. Remove the 3 pin-type retainers.

  11. Position the radiator air deflector forward.

  12. Remove the nut and position the accumulator aside.

    NOTE: If necessary, drain the windshield washer reservoir after removal.
  13. All vehicles 

  14. Disconnect the windshield washer reservoir hoses.

  15. Remove the top bolt.
    • To install, tighten to 5 Nm (44 lb-in).

  16. Remove the side bolt.
    • To install, tighten to 5 Nm (44 lb-in).

  17. Remove the bolt.
    • To install, tighten to 5 Nm (44 lb-in).

  18. Remove the windshield washer pump reservoir.
  19. Transfer components as necessary.
  20. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
