Pinpoint Test A: The Wipers Are Inoperative

  1. A1 CHECK CIRCUITS 950 (WH/BK) AND 1002 (BK/PK) FOR VOLTAGE 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Windshield Wiper Motor C1348.
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between windshield wiper motor C1348-5, circuit 950 (WH/BK), harness side and ground; and between windshield wiper motor C1348-8, circuit 1002 (BK/PK), harness side and ground.

    • Are the voltages greater than 10 volts? 
    • Yes  : GO to A2.
    • No  : REPAIR the circuit(s) in question. TEST the system for normal operation.
  2. A2 CHECK CIRCUITS 1205 (BK) AND 1203 (BK/LB) FOR OPENS 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Measure the resistance between windshield wiper motor C1348-6, circuit 1205 (BK), harness side and ground; and between windshield wiper motor C1348-3, circuit 1203 (BK/LB), harness side and ground.

    • Are the resistances less than 5 ohms? 
    • Yes  : GO to A3.
    • No  : REPAIR the circuit(s) in question. TEST the system for normal operation.
  3. A3 CHECK THE STEERING COLUMN MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH 
    • Disconnect: Steering Column Multifunction Switch C202a.
    • Carry out the steering column multifunction switch component test. Refer to COMPONENT TESTING .
    • Did the steering column multifunction switch pass the component test? 
  4. A4 CHECK CIRCUIT 1302 (WH/LG) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Measure the resistance between steering column multifunction switch C202a-4, circuit 1302 (WH/LG), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    • Yes  : GO to A5.
    • No  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  5. A5 CHECK CIRCUITS 682 (DB), 680 (LB/OG), 684 (PK/YE) AND 671 (LB) FOR 
    • Using the following table, measure the resistance between steering column multifunction switch C202a harness side and windshield wiper motor C1348 harness side:

      C202a-7, circuit 682 (DB) C1348-10, circuit 682 (DB)
      C202a-3, circuit 680 (LB/OG) C1348-11, circuit 680 (LB/OG)
      C202a-5, circuit 684 (PK/YE) C1348-1, circuit 684 (PK/YE)
      C202a-l, circuit 671 (LB) C1348-9, circuit 671 (LB)

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    • Yes  : GO to A6.
    • No  : REPAIR the circuit(s) in question. TEST the system for normal operation.
  6. A6 CHECK FOR CORRECT WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR OPERATION 
    • Disconnect all windshield wiper motor connectors.
    • Check for:
      • corrosion
      • pushed-out pins
    • Connect all the windshield wiper motor connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 
    • Yes  : GO to A7.
    • No  : The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. TEST the system for normal operation.
  7. A7 CHECK THE WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Windshield Wiper Motor C1348.
    • Carry out the windshield wiper motor component test as outlined in this article.
    • Did the windshield wiper motor pass the component test? 
    • Yes  : The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by binding or incorrect pivot arm adjustment. TEST the system for normal operation.
    • No  : INSTALL a new windshield wiper motor. REFER to WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR .
