Pinpoint Test H: DTC C1279, C1280, C1281, C1282. C1516, C1517, C2769, C2770 - Sensor Cluster Fault

CAUTION:
Use the flex probe kit for all test connections to prevent damage to the wiring terminals. Do not use standard multimeter probes.
NOTE:
The yaw rate sensor, roll rate sensor, lateral accelerometer, and longitudinal accelerometer are integral to the sensor cluster.
NOTE:
The vehicle must be on level ground, not on a hoist and at a complete standstill. Any vehicle movement results in false values for this test.
- H1 CARRY OUT THE RECALIBRATION PROCEDURE
- Connect the diagnostic tool.
- Key in ON position.
- Using the diagnostic tool, clear the DTCs, carry out the self-test and retrieve any DTCs.
- Are any DTCs retrieved?
- Yes : GO to H2.
- No : The anti-lock brake system (ABS) system is operating correctly.
- H2 CHECK THE VOLTAGE FROM THE ABS MODULE
- Disconnect: Sensor Cluster Module.
- Key in ON position.
- Measure the voltage between the sensor cluster C 3180-3, circuit 1574 (DB), harness side and the sensor cluster C3180-5, circuit 1575 (BK/WH), harness side.
- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
- Yes : GO to H3.
- No : GO to H7.
- H3 CHECK THE ABS MODULE YAW RATE PID
- Connect: Sensor Cluster Module.
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: ABS Module PID.
- Monitor the ABS module yaw rate PID.
- Is the ABS module yaw rate PID value between -0.05 and 0.05?
- Yes : GO to H4.
- No : CHECK the mounting of the sensor cluster. If OK, INSTALL a new sensor cluster. REFER to ACCELEROMETER . CLEAR the DTCs. CALIBRATE the ABS module. FOLLOW the diagnostic tool directions for the calibration procedure. REPEAT the self-test.
- H4 CHECK THE ABS MODULE LATERAL ACCELERATION PID
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: ABS Module PID.
- Monitor the ABS module lateral acceleration PID.
- Is the ABS module lateral acceleration PID value between -0.007 and 0.007?
NOTE: The vehicle must be on level ground and at a complete standstill. Any vehicle movement results in false values for this test.- Yes : GO to H5.
- No : CHECK the mounting of the sensor cluster. If OK, INSTALL a new sensor cluster. REFER to ACCELEROMETER . CLEAR the DTCs. CALIBRATE the ABS module. FOLLOW the diagnostic tool directions for the calibration procedure. REPEAT the self-test.
- H5 CHECK THE ABS MODULE LONGITUDINAL ACCELERATION PID
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: ABS Module PID.
- Monitor the ABS module longitudinal acceleration PID.
- Is the ABS module longitudinal acceleration PID value between -0.004 and 0.004?
- Yes : GO to H6.
- No : CHECK the mounting of the sensor cluster. If OK, INSTALL a new sensor cluster. REFER to ACCELEROMETER . CLEAR the DTCs. CALIBRATE the ABS module. FOLLOW the diagnostic tool directions for the calibration procedure. REPEAT the self-test.
- H6 CHECK THE ABS MODULE ROLL RATE PID
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: ABS Module PID.
- Monitor the ABS module roll rate PID.
- Is the ABS module roll rate PID value between -0.05 and 0.05?
- Yes : GO to H7.
- No : CHECK the mounting of the sensor cluster. If OK, INSTALL a new sensor cluster. REFER to ACCELEROMETER . CLEAR the DTCs. CALIBRATE the ABS module. FOLLOW the diagnostic tool directions for the calibration procedure. REPEAT the self-test.
- H7 CHECK THE SENSOR CLUSTER CIRCUITRY FOR AN OPEN
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Sensor Cluster C3180.
- Disconnect: ABS Module C155.
- Measure the resistance between the ABS module connector, harness side and the sensor cluster connector, harness side as follows:ABS MODULE AND SENSOR CLUSTER CONNECTORS AND CIRCUITS
ABS Module Connector-Pin Sensor Cluster Connector-Pin Circuit C155-7 C3180-3 1576 (TN/BK)/1574 (DB) C155-5 C3180-5 1577 (RD/LB)/1575 (BK/WH) C155-25 C3180-1 1879 (PK/BK)/3125 (RD/YE) C155-29 C3180-2 1878 (WH/BK)/3126 (TN/YE) - Are the resistances less than 5 ohms?
- Yes : GO to H8.
- No : REPAIR the circuit(s) in question. CLEAR the DTCs. CALIBRATE the ABS module. FOLLOW the diagnostic tool directions for the calibration procedure. REPEAT the self-test.
- H8 CHECK THE SENSOR CLUSTER CIRCUITRY FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Key in ON position.
- Measure the voltage between the sensor cluster connector, harness side and ground as follows:SENSOR CLUSTER CONNECTOR AND CIRCUITS
Sensor Cluster Connector-Pin Circuit C3180-3 1574 (DB) C3180-5 1575 (BK/WH) C3180-1 3125 (RD/YE) C3180-2 3126 (TN/YE) - Is any voltage present?
- Yes : REPAIR the circuit(s) in question. CLEAR the DTCs. CALIBRATE the ABS module. FOLLOW the diagnostic tool directions for the calibration procedure. REPEAT the self-test.
- No : GO to H9.
- H9 CHECK THE SENSOR CLUSTER CIRCUITRY FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Key in OFF position.
- Measure the resistance between the sensor cluster connector, harness side and ground as follows:SENSOR CLUSTER CONNECTOR AND CIRCUITS
Sensor Cluster Connector-Pin Circuit C3180-3 1574 (DB) C3180-5 1575 (BK/WH) C3180-1 3125 (RD/YE) C3180-2 3126 (TN/YE) - Are the resistances greater than 10,000 ohms?
- Yes : GO to H10.
- No : REPAIR the circuit(s) in question. CLEAR the DTCs. CALIBRATE the ABS module. FOLLOW the diagnostic tool directions for the calibration procedure. REPEAT the self-test.
- H10 CHECK FOR CORRECT ABS MODULE OPERATION
- Disconnect all the ABS connectors.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- pushed-out pins
- Connect all the ABS connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
- Yes : INSTALL a new ABS module. REFER to ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS) MODULE . TEST the system for normal operation.
- No : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
