Removal and Installation

  1. Place the steering wheel in the straight-ahead position and turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  2. Remove the driver air bag module. For additional information, refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM .
  3. Loosen the steering wheel bolt.
  4. CAUTION: Removing the steering wheel without using a puller can damage the column bearings.

  5. Using the special tool, separate the steering wheel from the steering column.
  6. NOTE: A new bolt must be installed.
  7. Remove and discard the steering wheel bolt.
    • To install, tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).
  8. Remove the steering wheel.
    • Disconnect the electrical connector.
  9. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
