Removal and Installation

WARNING: Do not smoke or carry lighted tobacco or open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel-related components. Highly flammable mixtures are always present and may be ignited. Failure to follow these instructions can result in personal injury.
WARNING: Fuel in the fuel system remains under high pressure even when the engine is not running. Before working on or disconnecting any of the fuel tubes or fuel system components, the fuel system pressure must be relieved. Failure to follow these instructions can result in personal injury.
NOTE: During the repair or replacement of fuel-related components, all liquid and vapor fuel openings shall be capped, taped or otherwise appropriately protected to prevent the ingress of dirt or other contamination. All caps, tape and other protective materials shall be removed prior to installation.
  1. Disconnect the spring lock coupling. For additional information, refer to FUEL SYSTEM-GENERAL INFORMATION .
  2. Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES .
  3. Remove the air cleaner outlet pipe. For additional information, refer to INTAKE AIR DISTRIBUTION AND FILTERING .
  4. Drain the engine cooling system. For additional information, refer to ENGINE COOLING .
  5. Disconnect the crankcase vent tube from the valve cover and remove the tube.
  6. Remove the brake booster vacuum hose bracket bolt, disconnect the brake booster vacuum hose from the intake manifold and position the brake booster vacuum hose aside.
  7. Disconnect the electronic throttle body electrical connectors.
  8. Disconnect the vacuum hose from the intake manifold.
  9. Disconnect the fuel vapor hose from the intake manifold.
  10. Disconnect the fuel pressure and temperature sensor electrical and vacuum connectors.
  11. Disconnect the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system module electrical and vacuum connectors.
  12. Disconnect the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) hose from the intake manifold.
  13. Release the clamps and disconnect the heated PCV coolant hoses from the intake manifold.
  14. Disconnect the fuel injector electrical connectors.
  15. Remove the bolts, the fuel rail and fuel injectors as an assembly.
    • To install, tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
    16. CAUTION: Use O-ring seals that are make of special fuel-resistant material. Use of ordinary O-ring seals can use the fuel system to leak. Do not reuse O-ring seals.
  16. Install new fuel injector-to-intake manifold O-ring seals. Lubricate the seals with clean engine oil.
  17. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
