Removal and Installation

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING AND LIFTING .
  2. Drain the cooling system. For additional information, refer to COOLING SYSTEM DRAINING, FILLING AND BLEEDING .
  3. Disconnect the block heater power cable.
  4. CAUTION: Do not loosen the block heater retaining screw more than necessary for removal.
  5. Loosen the screw and remove the block heater.
    • To install, tighten to 3 Nm (27 lb-in).
  6. Clean and inspect the engine block mating surface. Lubricate the block heater seal and the cylinder block hole with clean engine coolant.
  7. CAUTION: Make sure the power cable is routed and secured away from rotating or hot components or damage to the cable can occur.
  8. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
