Axle Shafts: Reassembly

  1. Lubricate the inboard and outboard CV joint with joint grease. Install the outboard axle shaft boot. Install the snap ring on the axle shaft. See Figure . Install a new axle shaft bearing retainer circlip.
  2. Use a soft-face hammer to install the inboard CV joint by gently taping it onto the axle shaft. Remove any excess grease on the mating surfaces and slide the outboard axle shaft joint boot forward onto the outboard CV joint.
  3. Remove any excess air trapped in the outboard axle shaft boot using a cloth covered screwdriver after adjusting the outboard axle shaft boot spacing. See Fig 1 . Using the CV Boot Clamp Installer (205-343, T95P-3514-A), crimp 2 new outboard axle shaft boot clamps. See Fig 2 .
  4. Position the inboard axle shaft boot. Install the snap ring. See Figure . Install the bearing retainer circlip. Using a soft face hammer, install the axle shaft on the inboard joint. Position the inboard axle shaft boot.
  5. Remove any excess air trapped in the axle shaft boot using a cloth covered screwdriver after adjusting the axle shaft boot spacing. See Fig 1 . Using the CV boot clamp installer, install 2 new inboard joint boot clamps. Install the front wheel axle shaft. See AXLE SHAFTS  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
