Valve Cover - RH: Installation

- Clean and inspect the valve cover mating surface of the cylinder head with silicone gasket remover and metal surface prep and a plastic scraping tool. Follow the directions on the packaging.
- Inspect the valve cover gasket. If the gasket is damaged, remove and discard the gasket. Clean the valve cover gasket groove with soap and water or a suitable solvent.
- If a new gasket is being installed, apply instant gel adhesive completely around the gasket groove in the valve cover.
- Apply the silicone gasket and sealant in 2 places where the engine front cover meets the cylinder head.
- Position the valve cover and install the 8 stud bolts and 3 bolts finger tight.
- Tighten the 8 stud bolts and 3 bolts in the sequence shown in Fig 3 to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
- Connect the RH engine wiring harness retainers to the valve cover studs.
- Position the A/C tube and install the 2 clamp nuts.
- Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
- Position the heater control valve and hose assembly, connect the vacuum connector and install the bolt.
- Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
- Connect the PCV valve tube to the PCV valve.
CAUTION:
Do not use metal scrapers, wire brushes, power abrasive discs or other abrasive means to clean the sealing surfaces. These tools cause scratches and gouges which make leak paths. Use a plastic scraping tool to remove all traces of old sealant.
NOTE:
If the valve cover is not secured within 4 minutes, the sealant must be removed and the sealing area cleaned with silicone gasket remover and metal surface prep. Follow the directions on the packaging. Failure to follow this procedure can cause future oil leakage.
