Engine Front Cover: Removal

- Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES .
- Drain the cooling system. For additional information, refer to ENGINE COOLING .
- Remove the crankshaft front seal. For additional information, refer to CRANKSHAFT FRONT SEAL .
- Remove the 2 nuts and detach the power steering pressure hose from the front cover.
- Remove the 5 oil pan-to-front cover bolts.
- Release the clamp and disconnect the lower radiator hose.
- Remove the bolt and the drive belt tensioner.
- Release the clamp and disconnect the heater hose from the coolant pump.
- Disconnect the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor electrical connector.
- Disconnect the alternator electrical connectors and the wiring harness retainer.
- Remove the 3 alternator bracket bolts and the alternator bracket.
- Remove the 2 coil bracket-to-LH accessory drive bracket bolts.
- Remove the 4 bolts and the LH accessory drive bracket.
- Remove and discard the CKP sensor wiring harness retainers.
- Disconnect the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor electrical connector.
- Release the clamp and disconnect the upper radiator hose from the thermostat housing.
- Release the clamp and disconnect the heater hose from the thermostat housing.
- Release the bypass hose clamp from the coolant pump end.
- Remove the 3 bolts and the thermostat housing.
- Remove the 10 bolts, the engine front cover and the gasket. Discard the gasket.
NOTE:
The bypass hose will be removed with the thermostat housing.
