Stub Shaft Pilot Bearing and Seal: Removal

  1. Remove the halfshaft assembly. For additional information, refer to REAR DRIVE HALFSHAFTS .
  2. NOTE: If removing the stub shaft pilot bearing oil seal only, engage the tangs of the special tool on the stub shaft pilot bearing oil seal.
  3. Using the special tools, remove the stub shaft pilot bearing and stub shaft pilot bearing oil seal.
    1. Firmly engage the tangs of the special tool on the stub shaft pilot bearing.
    2. Remove the stub shaft pilot bearing and stub shaft pilot bearing oil seal.

  4. Inspect the stub shaft pilot bearing oil seal journal for rust, nicks and scratches. Polish the seal journal surface with fine crocus cloth, if necessary.
