Pinpoint Test D: One Or More Module-Controlled Illumination Source(s) Is Inoperative: Testing
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2005 Mercury Montego, 2005 Ford Freestyle, and 2005 Ford Five Hundred. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- D1 CHECK FOR RECORDED SMART JUNCTION BOX (SJB) DTCs
- Reveiw the recorded results from the SJB continuous and on-demand self-tests.
- Are any DTCs recorded?
- Yes
: For DTC B2026, GO to D4.
For DTC B2027, GO to D5.
For all others, GO to the SMART JUNCTION BOX (SJB) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) INDEX .
- No : GO to D2.
- D2 CHECK THE VOLTAGE TO THE SINGLE ILLUMINATION SOURCE
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Inoperative Illumination Source.
- Place the headlamp switch to the parking lamps ON position.
- Rotate the instrument panel dimmer switch to the full illumination position.
- Measure the voltage between the inoperative illumination source, harness side and ground as follows:DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE

- Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
- Yes : GO to D6.
- No : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- D6 CHECK FOR CORRECT SJB OPERATION
- Disconnect all the SJB connectors.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- pushed-out pins
- Connect all the SJB connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
- Yes : INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES . TEST the system for normal operation.
- No : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
