Pinpoint Test P: The Passenger Heated Seat Is Inoperative - Seat Does Heat But The Heated Seat Indicator Does Not Illuminate: Testing

  1. P1 CHECK CIRCUITS 2070 (GY/LB) AND 2069 (VT/LG) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    WARNING: The restraint system diagnostic tool is for restraint system service only. Remove from vehicle prior to road use. Failure to remove could result in injury and possible violation of vehicle safety standards.
    NOTE: If a seat equipped with a supplemental restraint system (SRS) component is being serviced, the SRS must be depowered.  Refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM .
    NOTE: The air bag warning lamp illuminates when the RCM fuse is removed and the ignition switch is ON. This is normal operation and does not indicate a supplemental restraint system (SRS) fault.
    NOTE: The SRS must be fully operational and free of faults before releasing the vehicle to the customer.
    • Key in OFF position.
      • WARNING: Be sure that nobody is in the vehicle and that there is nothing blocking or set in front of any air bag module when the battery ground cable is connected.
    • For vehicles equipped with seat side air bags, carry out the following:
      • Depower the SRS. Refer to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering in the General Procedures portion of SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM .
      • Disconnect driver seat side air bag C3226.
      • Connect restraint system diagnostic tool 418-133 to driver seat side air bag C3226.
      • Connect the battery ground cable.
    • Disconnect: EATC Module C228b.
    • Disconnect: Passenger Heated Seat Module C329.
    • Measure the resistance between EATC module C228b pin 20, circuit 2070 (GY/LB), harness side and ground; and between EATC module C228b pin 21, circuit 2069 (VT/LG), harness side and ground.

    • Are the resistances greater than 10,000 ohms? 

    Result/ Action to Take 

    • Yes  : GO to P2.
    • No  : REPAIR the affected circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.

      For vehicles equipped with seat side air bags, DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from passenger seat side air bag module C3227. CONNECT passenger seat side air bag module C3227. REPOWER the SRS. REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM .

  2. P2 CHECK CIRCUITS 2070 (GY/LB) AND 2069 (VT/LG) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the resistance between EATC module C228b pin 20, circuit 2070 (GY/LB), harness side and passenger heated seat module C329 pin 9, circuit 2070 (GY/LB), harness side; and between EATC module C228b pin 21, circuit 2069 (VT/LG), harness side and passenger heated seat module C329 pin 10, circuit 2069 (VT/LG), harness side.

    • Are the resistances less than 5 ohms? 
    • Yes  : GO to P3.
    • No  : REPAIR the affected circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.

      For vehicles equipped with seat side air bags, DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from passenger seat side air bag module C3227. CONNECT passenger seat side air bag module C3227. REPOWER the SRS. REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM .

  3. P3 CHECK THE HEATED SEAT MODULE HI INDICATOR ON THE EATC MODULE 
    • Connect: EATC Module C228b.
    • Key in ON position.
    • Connect a fused jumper lead between passenger heated seat module C329 pin 10, circuit 2069 (VT/LG), harness side and C329 pin 12, circuit 1048 (LB/WH), harness side.

    • Do both passenger heated seat indicator LEDs illuminate on the EATC module? 
    • Yes  : GO to P4.
    • No  : INSTALL a new EATC module. REFER to CONTROL COMPONENTS . TEST the system for normal operation.

      For vehicles equipped with seat side air bags, DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from passenger seat side air bag module C3227. CONNECT passenger seat side air bag module C3227. REPOWER the SRS. REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM .

  4. P4 CHECK THE HEATED SEAT MODULE HI INDICATOR ON THE EATC MODULE 
    • Connect a fused jumper lead between passenger heated seat module C329 pin 9, circuit 2070 (GY/LB), harness side and C329 pin 12, circuit 1048 (LB/WH), harness side.

    • Does only the left passenger heated seat indicator LED illuminate on the EATC module? 
    • Yes  : INSTALL a new passenger heated seat module. TEST the system for normal operation.

      For vehicles equipped with seat side air bags, DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from passenger seat side air bag module C3227. CONNECT passenger seat side air bag module C3227. REPOWER the SRS. REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM .

    • No  : INSTALL a new EATC module. REFER to CONTROL COMPONENTS . TEST the system for normal operation.

      For vehicles equipped with seat side air bags, DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from passenger seat side air bag module C3227. CONNECT passenger seat side air bag module C3227. REPOWER the SRS. REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM .
