Pinpoint Test D: The Passenger Power Seat Is Inoperative (Without Power Recliner): Testing
- D1 CHECK VOLTAGE TO THE PASSENGER SEAT HORIZONTAL MOTOR WARNING: The restraint system diagnostic tool is for restraint system service only. Remove from vehicle prior to road use. Failure to remove could result in injury and possible violation of vehicle safety standards.NOTE: If a seat equipped with a supplemental restraint system (SRS) component is being serviced, the SRS must be depowered. Refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM .NOTE: The air bag warning lamp illuminates when the RCM fuse is removed and the ignition switch is ON. This is normal operation and does not indicate a supplemental restraint system (SRS) fault.NOTE: The SRS must be fully operational and free of faults before releasing the vehicle to the customer.
- Key in OFF position.
- For vehicles equipped with seat side air bags, carry out the following:
- Depower the SRS. Refer to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering in the General Procedures portion of SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM .
- Disconnect driver seat side air bag C3227.
- Connect restraint system diagnostic tool 418-133 to driver seat side air bag C3227.
- Connect the battery ground cable.
- Disconnect: Passenger Seat Horizontal Motor C332.
- Measure the voltage between passenger seat horizontal motor C332 pin 2, circuit 986 (YE/WH), harness side and C332 pin 1, circuit 987 (RD/WH), harness side, while pushing the passenger seat control switch forward and rearward.
- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts when the switch is pushed FORWARD, greater than -10 volts when the switch is pushed REARWARD, and 0 volts when the switch is in a REST position?
WARNING: Be sure that nobody is in the vehicle and that there is nothing blocking or set in front of any air bag module when the battery ground cable is connected.Result/ Action to Take
- Yes
: INSTALL a new passenger seat horizontal motor. TEST the system for normal operation.
For vehicles equipped with seat side air bags, DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from passenger seat side air bag module C3227. CONNECT passenger seat side air bag module C3227. REPOWER the SRS. REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM .
- No : GO to D2.
- D2 CHECK FOR POWER TO THE PASSENGER SEAT CONTROL SWITCH
- Disconnect: Passenger Seat Control Switch C3190.
- Measure the voltage between passenger seat control switch C3190 pin 4, circuit 1462 (RD/WH), harness side and ground.
- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
- Yes : GO to D3.
- No
: REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
For vehicles equipped with seat side air bags, DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from passenger seat side air bag module C3227. CONNECT passenger seat side air bag module C3227. REPOWER the SRS. REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM .
- D3 CHECK CIRCUIT 1205 (BK) FOR AN OPEN
- Measure the resistance between passenger seat control switch C3190 pin 2, circuit 1205 (BK), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- Yes : GO to D4.
- No
: REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
For vehicles equipped with seat side air bags, DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from passenger seat side air bag module C3227. CONNECT passenger seat side air bag module C3227. REPOWER the SRS. REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM .
- D4 CHECK CIRCUIT 986 (YE/WH) FOR AN OPEN AND SHORT TO GROUND
- Measure the resistance between passenger seat control switch C3190 pin 3, circuit 986 (YE/WH), harness side and passenger seat horizontal motor C332 pin 2, circuit 986 (YE/WH), harness side; and between passenger seat control switch C3190 pin 3, circuit 986 (YE/WH), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the passenger seat horizontal motor and the passenger seat control switch; and greater than 10,000 ohms between the passenger seat control switch and ground?
- Yes : GO to D5.
- No
: REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
For vehicles equipped with seat side air bags, DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from passenger seat side air bag module C3227. CONNECT passenger seat side air bag module C3227. REPOWER the SRS. REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM .
- D5 CHECK CIRCUIT 987 (RD/WH) FOR AN OPEN AND SHORT TO GROUND
- Measure the resistance between passenger seat control switch C3190 pin 6, circuit 987 (RD/WH), harness side and passenger seat horizontal motor C332 pin 1, circuit 987 (RD/WH), harness side; and between passenger seat control switch C3190 pin 6, circuit 987 (RD/WH), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the passenger seat horizontal motor and the passenger seat control switch; and greater than 10,000 ohms between the passenger seat control switch and ground?
- Yes
: INSTALL a new passenger seat control switch. TEST the system for normal operation.
For vehicles equipped with seat side air bags, DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from passenger seat side air bag module C3227. CONNECT passenger seat side air bag module C3227. REPOWER the SRS. REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM .
- No
: REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
For vehicles equipped with seat side air bags, DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from passenger seat side air bag module C3227. CONNECT passenger seat side air bag module C3227. REPOWER the SRS. REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM .
