WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2005 Mercury Montego, 2005 Ford Freestyle, and 2005 Ford Five Hundred. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- D1 CHECK CIRCUITS 1050 (LG/VT) AND 1522 (DG) FOR VOLTAGE
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Smart Junction Box (SJB) C2280b.
- Key in ACCESSORY position.
- Measure the voltage between the SJB C2280b-32, circuit 1050 (LG/VT), harness side and ground; and between the SJB C2280b-30, circuit 1522 (DG), harness side and ground.
- Are the voltages greater than 10 volts?
- Yes : GO to D4.
- No : GO to D2.
- D2 CHECK CIRCUIT 1522 (DG) FOR AN OPEN OR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Ignition Switch C250.
- Measure the resistance between the SJB C2208b-30, circuit 1522 (DG), harness side and the ignition switch C250-7, circuit 1522 (DG), harness side; and between the SJB C2208b-30, circuit 1522 (DG), harness side, and ground.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the SJB and the ignition switch, and greater than 10,000 ohms between the SJB and ground?
- Yes : GO to D3.
- No : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- D3 CHECK CIRCUIT 1050 (LG/VT) FOR AN OPEN OR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Measure the resistance between the ignition switch C250-1, circuit 1050 (LG/VT), harness side, and the SJB C2208b-32, circuit 1050 (LG/VT), harness side; and between the SJB C2208b-32, circuit 1050 (LG/VT), harness side, and ground.
- Are the resistances less than 5 ohms between the SJB and the ignition switch, and greater than 10,000 ohms between the SJB and ground?
- Yes : INSTALL a new ignition switch. REFER to IGNITION SWITCH . TEST the system for normal operation.
- No : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- D4 CHECK FOR CORRECT SJB OPERATION
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect all the SJB connectors.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- pushed-out pins
- Connect all the SJB connectors and make sure they are seated correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
- Yes : INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES . REPEAT the self-test.
- No : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. TEST the system for normal operation.
