Pinpoint Test V: LFC 42, 43, 44, 45, 46 and 47/DTC B2296 - Restraint System - Impact Sensor Fault: Testing

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2005 Mercury Montego, 2005 Ford Freestyle, and 2005 Ford Five Hundred. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: Most faults are due to connector and/or wiring concerns. Carry out a thorough Inspection and Verification before proceeding with the pinpoint test.
  1. V1 CHECK FOR CONTINUOUS OR ON-DEMAND DTCs 
    WARNING: Restraint system diagnostic tools are for service only. Tools must be removed prior to operating the vehicle over the road. Failure to remove restraint system diagnostic tools could result in injury and possible violation of vehicle safety standards.
    WARNING: Do not handle, move or change the original horizontal mounting position of the restraints control module (RCM) while the RCM is connected and the ignition switch is ON. Failure to follow these instructions may result in the inadvertent deployment of the safety canopy and risk of personal injury.
    WARNING: Never probe the connectors on the air bag module. Doing so can result in air bag deployment, which can result in personal injury.
    WARNING: The safety belt pretensioner is a pyrotechnic device. Always wear safety glasses when repairing an air bag equipped vehicle and when handling a safety belt buckle pretensioner or safety belt retractor pretensioner. Never probe a pretensioner electrical connector. Doing so could result in pretensioner or air bag deployment and could result in personal injury.
    WARNING: Never probe the electrical connector on a safety canopy module. Doing so can result in safety canopy deployment.
    NOTE: If a seat equipped with a supplemental restraint system (SRS) component is being serviced, the SRS must be depowered.
    NOTE: After diagnosing or repairing an SRS, the restraint system diagnostic tools must be removed before operating the vehicle over the road. 
    NOTE: The SRS must be fully operational and free of faults before releasing the vehicle to the customer.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: On-Demand Self Test.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Flag DTC B2296/Record All Flagged Faults.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Retrieve/Flag /Record Continuous DTCs.
    • Was DTC B2296 retrieved during the on-demand self test? 
    1. Yes  : This is a hard fault. The fault condition is still present. This fault cannot be cleared until it is corrected and the DTC is no longer retrieved during the on-demand self test.

      If a flagged fault of " " was recorded, multiple faults exist and the entire pinpoint test must be carried out.

      For first row driver side impact (F_D_SEN) sensor with a mounting/communications (COMM) fault, GO to V2.

      For first row driver side impact sensor (F_D_SEN) with an internal (INT) fault, INSTALL a new first row driver side impact sensor. REFER to SIDE IMPACT SENSOR - FIRST ROW, B-PILLAR . GO to  V72.

      For first row passenger side impact sensor (F_P_SEN) with a mounting/communications (COMM) fault, GO to  V12.

      For first row passenger side impact sensor (F_P_SEN) with an internal (INT) fault, INSTALL a new first row passenger side impact sensor. REFER to SIDE IMPACT SENSOR - FIRST ROW, B-PILLAR . GO to  V72.

      For second row driver side impact sensor (D_2_SEN) with a mounting/communication (COMM) fault, GO to  V22.

      For second row driver side impact sensor (D_2_SEN) with an internal (INT) fault, INSTALL a new second row driver side impact sensor. REFER to SIDE IMPACT SENSOR - FREESTYLE, SECOND ROW, C-PILLAR  or SIDE IMPACT SENSOR - FIVE HUNDRED, MONTEGO, SECOND ROW, C-PILLAR . GO to  V72.

      For second row passenger side impact sensor (P_2_SEN) with a mounting/communications (COMM) fault, GO to  V32.

      For second row passenger side impact sensor (P_2_SEN) with an internal (INT) fault, INSTALL a new second row passenger side impact sensor. REFER to SIDE IMPACT SENSOR - FREESTYLE, SECOND ROW, C-PILLAR  or SIDE IMPACT SENSOR - FIVE HUNDRED, MONTEGO, SECOND ROW, C-PILLAR . GO to  V72.

      For RH front impact severity sensor (FNTPSEN) with a mounting/communications (COMM) fault, GO to  V42.

      For LH front impact severity sensor (FNT_SEN) with a mounting/communications (COMM) fault, GO to  V51.

      For LH front impact severity sensor (FTSEN2) with a short to ground (--G) fault, GO to  V56.

      For RH front impact severity sensor (FNTPSEN) with an internal fault (INT) fault, INSTALL a new RH front impact severity sensor. REFER to FRONT IMPACT SEVERITY SENSOR . GO to  V72.

      For RH front impact severity sensor (FTSEN3) with a short to ground (--G) fault, GO to  V47.

      For LH front impact severity sensor (FNT_SEN) with an internal fault (INT) fault, INSTALL a new LH front impact severity sensor. REFER to FRONT IMPACT SEVERITY SENSOR . GO to  V72.

      For LH front impact severity sensor (FTSEN2) with a short to battery (-B-) fault, GO to  V60.

      For RH front impact severity sensor (FTSEN3) with a short to battery (-B-) fault, GO to  V61.

      For first row driver side impact sensor (D_1_SEN) with a short to battery (-B-) fault, GO to  V62.

      For second row driver side impact sensor (D_2_SEN) with a short to battery (-B-) fault, GO to  V63.

      For first row driver side impact sensor (D_1_SEN) with a short to ground (--G) fault, GO to  V64.

      For second row driver side impact sensor (D_2_SEN) with a short to (--G) ground fault, GO to  V65.

      For first row passenger side impact sensor (P_1_SEN) with a short to battery (-B-) fault, GO to  V66.

      For second row passenger side impact sensor (P_2_SEN) with a short to battery (-B-) fault, GO to  V67.

      For first row passenger side impact sensor (P_1_SEN) with a short to ground (--G) fault, GO to  V68.

      For second row passenger side impact sensor (P_2_SEN) with a short to ground (--G) fault, GO to  V69.

    2. No  : This is an intermittent fault. The fault condition is not present at this time. GO to  V71.
  2. V2 INSPECT THE FIRST ROW DRIVER SIDE IMPACT SENSOR MOUNTING SURFACE 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Depower the system. Refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING .
    • Inspect the first row driver side impact sensor mounting and make sure that the retaining bolt is fully seated and tightened correctly.
    • Remove the first row driver side impact sensor.
    • Visually inspect the first row driver side impact sensor and mounting surface for damage, corrosion or dirt.
    • Was a significant amount of corrosion or dirt found, the first row driver side impact sensor attached to the mounting surface incorrectly or was the impact sensor bolt not fully seated and tightened correctly? 
    1. Yes  : CLEAN and TIGHTEN the bolt or REPAIR the mounting surface as necessary. REINSTALL the first row driver side impact sensor. GO to  V72.
    2. No  : GO to V3.
  3. V3 INSTALL THE FIRST ROW DRIVER SIDE IMPACT SENSOR AND CARRY OUT THE ON-DEMAND SELF TEST 
    • Clean and repair the mounting surface as necessary.
    • Clean the first row driver side impact sensor mounting bolt.
    • Install the first row driver side impact sensor.
    • Repower the system. Do not  prove out the system at this time. Refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING .
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: On-Demand Self Test.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Flag DTC B2296.
    • Was DTC B2296 retrieved during the on-demand self test? 
    1. Yes  : GO to V4.
    2. No  : Fault corrected. GO to  V72.
  4. V4 CHECK THE FIRST ROW DRIVER SIDE IMPACT SENSOR GROUND CIRCUIT 1262 (BN/LG) FOR HIGH RESISTANCE 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Depower the system. Refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING .
    • Disconnect: First Row Driver Side Impact Sensor C3209.
    • Measure the resistance between first row driver side impact sensor C3209 pin 2, circuit 1262 (BN/LG), harness side and the first row driver side impact sensor case ground.
    • Is the resistance less than 10 ohms? 
    1. Yes  : GO to  V6.
    2. No  : GO to V5.
  5. V5 CLEAN THE FIRST ROW DRIVER SIDE IMPACT SENSOR MOUNTING SURFACE AND CARRY OUT THE ON-DEMAND SELF TEST 
    • Remove the first row driver side impact sensor.
    • Clean and repair the mounting surface as necessary.
    • Clean the first row driver side impact sensor mounting bolt.
    • Install the first row driver side impact sensor.
    • Repower the system. Do not  prove out the system at this time. Refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING .
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: On-Demand Self Test.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Flag DTC B2296.
    • Was DTC B2296 retrieved during the on-demand self test? 
    1. Yes  : GO to V6.
    2. No  : Fault corrected. GO to  V72.
  6. V6 CHECK CIRCUIT 1261 (WH/LG) AND CIRCUIT 1262 (BN/LG) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE BETWEEN THE FIRST ROW DRIVER SIDE IMPACT SENSOR AND THE RCM 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Depower the system. Refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING .
    • Disconnect: RCM C310a and C310b.
    • Disconnect: First Row Driver Side Impact Sensor C3209.
    • Repower the system. Do not  prove out the system at this time. Refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING .
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between first row driver side impact sensor C3209 pin 2, circuit 1262 (BN/LG), harness side and ground; and between pin 1, circuit 1261 (WH/LG), harness side and ground.

    • Are the voltages less than 0.2 volt? 
    1. Yes  : GO to V7.
    2. No  : REPAIR circuit 1261 (WH/LG) or circuit 1262 (BN/LG). GO to  V72.
  7. V7 CHECK CIRCUIT 1261 (WH/LG) AND CIRCUIT 1262 (BN/LG) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND BETWEEN THE FIRST ROW DRIVER SIDE IMPACT SENSOR AND THE RCM 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Depower the system. Refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING .
    • Measure the resistance between first row driver side impact sensor C3209 pin 2, circuit 1262 (BN/LG), harness side and ground; and between pin 1, circuit 1261 (WH/LG), harness side and ground.

    • Are the resistances greater than 1,000,000 ohms? 
    1. Yes  : GO to V8.
    2. No  : REPAIR circuit 1261 (WH/LG) or circuit 1262 (BN/LG). GO to  V72.
  8. V8 CHECK CIRCUIT 1261 (WH/LG) FOR AN OPEN BETWEEN THE RCM AND THE FIRST ROW DRIVER SIDE IMPACT SENSOR 
    • Measure the resistance between RCM C310b pin 27, circuit 1261 (WH/LG), harness side and first row driver side impact sensor C3209 pin 1, circuit 1261 (WH/LG), harness side.

    • Is the resistance less than 0.5 ohm? 
    1. Yes  : GO to V9.
    2. No  : REPAIR circuit 1261 (WH/LG). GO to  V72.
  9. V9 CHECK CIRCUIT 1262 (BN/LG) FOR AN OPEN BETWEEN THE RCM AND THE FIRST ROW DRIVER SIDE IMPACT SENSOR 
    • Measure the resistance between RCM C310b pin 28, circuit 1262 (BN/LG), harness side and first row driver side impact sensor C3209 pin 2, circuit 1262 (BN/LG), harness side.

    • Is the resistance less than 0.5 ohm? 
    1. Yes  : GO to V10.
    2. No  : REPAIR circuit 1262 (BN/LG). GO to  V72.
  10. V10 CHECK CIRCUIT 1261 (WH/LG) FOR A SHORT TO CIRCUIT 1262 (BN/LG) BETWEEN THE RCM AND THE FIRST ROW DRIVER SIDE IMPACT SENSOR 
    • Measure the resistance between first row driver side impact sensor C3209 pin 1, circuit 1261 (WH/LG), harness side and pin 2, circuit 1262 (BN/LG), harness side.

    • Is the resistance greater than 1,000,000 ohms? 
    1. Yes  : GO to V11.
    2. No  : REPAIR circuit 1261 (WH/LG) and circuit 1262 (BN/LG). GO to  V72.
  11. V11 CHECK THE FIRST ROW DRIVER SIDE IMPACT SENSOR 
    • Connect: RCM C310a and C310b.
    • Install a known good first row driver side impact sensor.
    • Repower the system. Do not  prove out the system at this time. Refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING .
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: On-Demand Self Test.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Flag DTC B2296.
    • Were any faults flagged against the first row driver side impact sensor? 
    1. Yes  : GO to  V70.
    2. No  : Fault corrected. GO to  V72.
  12. V12 INSPECT THE FIRST ROW PASSENGER SIDE IMPACT SENSOR MOUNTING SURFACE 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Depower the system. Refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING .
    • Inspect the first row passenger side impact sensor mounting and make sure that the retaining bolt is fully seated and tightened correctly.
    • Remove the first row passenger side impact sensor.
    • Visually inspect the first row passenger side impact sensor and mounting surface for damage, corrosion or dirt.
    • Was a significant amount of corrosion or dirt found, the first row passenger side impact sensor attached to the mounting surface incorrectly or was the impact sensor bolt not fully seated and tightened correctly? 
    1. Yes  : CLEAN and TIGHTEN the bolt or REPAIR the mounting surface as necessary. REINSTALL the first row passenger side impact sensor. GO to  V72.
    2. No  : GO to V13.
  13. V13 INSTALL THE FIRST ROW PASSENGER SIDE IMPACT SENSOR AND CARRY OUT THE ON-DEMAND SELF TEST 
    • Clean and repair the mounting surface as necessary.
    • Clean the first row passenger side impact sensor mounting bolt.
    • Install the first row passenger side impact sensor.
    • Repower the system. Do not  prove out the system at this time. Refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING .
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: On-Demand Self Test.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Flag DTC B2296.
    • Was DTC B2296 retrieved during the on-demand self test? 
    1. Yes  : GO to V14.
    2. No  : Fault corrected. GO to  V72.
  14. V14 CHECK THE FIRST ROW PASSENGER SIDE IMPACT SENSOR GROUND CIRCUIT 1264 (BN) FOR HIGH RESISTANCE 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Depower the system. Refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING .
    • Disconnect: First Row Passenger Side Impact Sensor C3211.
    • Measure the resistance between the first row passenger side impact sensor C3211 pin 2, circuit 1264 (BN), harness side and the first row passenger side impact sensor case ground.
    • Is the resistance less than 10 ohms? 
    1. Yes  : GO to  V16.
    2. No  : GO to V15.
  15. V15 CLEAN THE FIRST ROW PASSENGER SIDE IMPACT SENSOR MOUNTING SURFACE AND CARRY OUT THE ON-DEMAND SELF TEST 
    • Remove the first row passenger side impact sensor.
    • Clean and repair the mounting surface as necessary.
    • Clean the first row passenger side impact sensor mounting bolt.
    • Install the first row passenger side impact sensor.
    • Repower the system. Do not  prove out the system at this time. Refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING .
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: On-Demand Self Test.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Flag DTC B2296.
    • Was DTC B2296 retrieved during the on-demand self test? 
    1. Yes  : GO to V16.
    2. No  : Fault corrected. GO to  V72.
  16. V16 CHECK CIRCUIT 1263 (WH) AND CIRCUIT 1264 (BN) FOR A SHORT TO BATTERY BETWEEN THE FIRST ROW PASSENGER SIDE IMPACT SENSOR AND THE RCM 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Depower the system. Refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING .
    • Disconnect: RCM C310a and C310b.
    • Disconnect: First Row Passenger Side Impact Sensor C3211.
    • Repower the system. Do not  prove out the system at this time. Refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING .
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between first row passenger side impact sensor C3211 pin 1, circuit 1263 (WH), harness side and ground; and between pin 2, circuit 1264 (BN), harness side and ground.

    • Are the voltages less than 0.2 volt? 
    1. Yes  : GO to
    2. No  : REPAIR circuit 1263 (WH) or circuit 1264 (BN). GO to  V72.
  17. V17 CHECK CIRCUIT 1263 (WH) AND CIRCUIT 1264 (BN) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND BETWEEN THE FIRST ROW PASSENGER SIDE IMPACT SENSOR AND THE RCM 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Depower the system. Refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING .
    • Measure the resistance between first row passenger side impact sensor C3211 pin 1, circuit 1263 (WH), harness side and ground; and between pin 2, circuit 1264 (BN), harness side and ground.

    • Are the resistances greater than 1,000,000 ohms? 
    1. Yes  : GO to V18.
    2. No  : REPAIR circuit 1263 (WH) or circuit 1264 (BN). GO to  V72.
  18. V18 CHECK CIRCUIT 1263 (WH) FOR AN OPEN BETWEEN THE RCM AND THE FIRST ROW PASSENGER SIDE IMPACT SENSOR 
    • Measure the resistance between RCM C310b pin 29, circuit 1263 (WH), harness side and first row passenger side impact sensor C3211 pin 1, circuit 1263 (WH), harness side.

    • Is the resistance less than 0.5 ohm? 
    1. Yes  : GO to V19.
    2. No  : REPAIR circuit 1263 (WH). GO to  V72.
  19. V19 CHECK CIRCUIT 1264 (BN) FOR AN OPEN BETWEEN THE RCM AND THE FIRST ROW PASSENGER SIDE IMPACT SENSOR 
    • Measure the resistance between RCM C310b pin 30, circuit 1264 (BN), harness side and first row passenger side impact sensor C3211 pin 2, circuit 1264 (BN), harness side.

    • Is the resistance less than 0.5 ohm? 
    1. Yes  : GO to V20.
    2. No  : REPAIR circuit 1264 (BN). GO to  V72.
  20. V20 CHECK CIRCUIT 1263 (WH) FOR A SHORT TO CIRCUIT 1264 (BN) BETWEEN THE RCM AND THE FIRST ROW PASSENGER SIDE IMPACT SENSOR 
    • Measure the resistance between first row passenger side impact sensor C3211 pin 1, circuit 1263 (WH), harness side and pin 2, circuit 1264 (BN), harness side.

    • Is the resistance greater than 1,000,000 ohms? 
    1. Yes  : GO to V21.
    2. No  : REPAIR short between circuit 1263 (WH) and circuit 1264 (BN). GO to  V72.
  21. V21 CHECK THE FIRST ROW PASSENGER SIDE IMPACT SENSOR 
    • Connect: RCM C310a and C310b.
    • Install a known good first row passenger side impact sensor.
    • Repower the system. Do not  prove out the system at this time. Refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING .
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: On-Demand Self Test.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Flag DTC B2296.
    • Were any faults flagged against the first row passenger side impact sensor? 
    1. Yes  : GO to  V70.
    2. No  : Fault corrected. GO to  V72.
  22. V22 INSPECT THE SECOND ROW DRIVER SIDE IMPACT SENSOR MOUNTING SURFACE 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Depower the system. Refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING .
    • Inspect the second row driver side impact sensor mounting and make sure that the retaining bolt is fully seated and tightened correctly.
    • Remove the second row driver side impact sensor.
    • Visually inspect the second row driver side impact sensor mounting surface for damage, corrosion or dirt.
    • Was a significant amount of corrosion or dirt found, the second row driver side impact sensor attached to the mounting surface incorrectly or was the impact sensor bolt not fully seated and tightened correctly? 
    1. Yes  : CLEAN and TIGHTEN the bolt or REPAIR the mounting surface as necessary. REINSTALL the second row driver side impact sensor. GO to  V72.
    2. No  : GO to V23.
  23. V23 INSTALL THE SECOND ROW DRIVER SIDE IMPACT SENSOR AND CARRY OUT THE ON-DEMAND SELF TEST 
    • Clean and repair the mounting surface as necessary.
    • Clean the second row driver side impact sensor mounting bolt.
    • Install the second row driver side impact sensor.
    • Repower the system. Do not  prove out the system at this time. Refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING .
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: On-Demand Self Test.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Flag DTC B2296.
    • Was DTC B2296 retrieved during the on-demand self test? 
    1. Yes  : GO to V24.
    2. No  : Fault corrected. GO to  V72.
  24. V24 CHECK THE SECOND ROW DRIVER SIDE IMPACT SENSOR GROUND CIRCUIT 1642 (DG/WH) FOR HIGH RESISTANCE 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Depower the system. Refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING .
    • Disconnect: Second Row Driver Side Impact Sensor C321.
    • Measure the resistance between second row driver side impact sensor C321 pin 2, circuit 1642 (DG/WH), harness side and the second row driver side impact sensor case ground.
    • Is the resistance less than 10 ohms? 
    1. Yes  : GO to  V26.
    2. No  : GO to V25.
  25. V25 CLEAN THE SECOND ROW DRIVER SIDE IMPACT SENSOR MOUNTING SURFACE AND CARRY OUT THE ON-DEMAND SELF TEST 
    • Remove the second row driver side impact sensor.
    • Clean and repair the mounting surface as necessary.
    • Clean the second row driver side impact sensor mounting bolt.
    • Install the second row driver side impact sensor.
    • Repower the system. Do not  prove out the system at this time. Refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING .
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: On-Demand Self Test.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Flag DTC B2296.
    • Was DTC B2296 retrieved during the on-demand self test? 
    1. Yes  : GO to V26.
    2. No  : Fault corrected. GO to  V72.
  26. V26 CHECK CIRCUIT 1641 (VT) AND CIRCUIT 1642 (DG/WH) FOR A SHORT TO BATTERY BETWEEN THE SECOND ROW DRIVER SIDE IMPACT SENSOR AND THE RCM 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Depower the system. Refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING .
    • Disconnect: RCM C310a and C310b.
    • Disconnect: Second Row Driver Side Impact Sensor C321.
    • Repower the system. Do not  prove out the system at this time. Refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING .
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between second row driver side impact sensor C321 pin 2, circuit 1641 (VT), harness side and ground; and between pin 1, circuit 1642 (DG/WH), harness side and ground.

    • Are the voltages less than 0.2 volt? 
    1. Yes  : GO to V27.
    2. No  : REPAIR circuit 1641 (VT) or circuit 1642 (DG/WH). GO to  V72.
  27. V27 CHECK CIRCUIT 1641 (VT) AND CIRCUIT 1642 (DG/WH) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND BETWEEN THE SECOND ROW DRIVER SIDE IMPACT SENSOR AND THE RCM 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Depower the system. Refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING .
    • Measure the resistance between second row driver side impact sensor C321 pin 1, circuit 1641 (VT), harness side and ground; and between pin 2, circuit 1642 (DG/WH), harness side and ground.

    • Are the resistances greater than 1,000,000 ohms? 
    1. Yes  : GO to V28.
    2. No  : REPAIR circuit 1641 (VT) or circuit 1642 (DG/WH). GO to  V72.
  28. V28 CHECK CIRCUIT 1641 (VT) FOR AN OPEN BETWEEN THE RCM AND THE SECOND ROW DRIVER SIDE IMPACT SENSOR 
    • Measure the resistance between RCM C310b pin 13, circuit 1641 (VT), harness side and second row driver side impact sensor C321 pin 1, circuit 1641 (VT), harness side.

    • Is the resistance less than 0.5 ohm? 
    1. Yes  : GO to V29.
    2. No  : REPAIR circuit 1641 (VT). GO to  V72.
  29. V29 CHECK CIRCUIT 1642 (DG/WH) FOR AN OPEN BETWEEN THE RCM AND THE SECOND ROW DRIVER SIDE IMPACT SENSOR 
    • Measure the resistance between RCM C310b pin 14, circuit 1642 (DG/WH), harness side and second row driver side impact sensor C321 pin 2, circuit 1642 (DG/WH), harness side.

    • Is the resistance less than 0.5 ohm? 
    1. Yes  : GO to V30.
    2. No  : REPAIR circuit 1642 (DG/WH). GO to  V72.
  30. V30 CHECK CIRCUIT 1641 (VT) FOR A SHORT TO CIRCUIT 1642 (DG/WH) BETWEEN THE RCM AND THE SECOND ROW DRIVER SIDE IMPACT SENSOR 
    • Measure the resistance between second row driver side impact sensor C321 pin 1, circuit 1641 (VT), harness side and pin 2, circuit 1642 (DG/WH), harness side.

    • Is the resistance greater than 1,000,000 ohms? 
    1. Yes  : GO to V31.
    2. No  : REPAIR circuit 1641 (VT) or circuit 1642 (DG/WH). GO to  V72.
  31. V31 CHECK THE SECOND ROW DRIVER SIDE IMPACT SENSOR 
    • Connect: RCM C310a and C310b.
    • Install a known good second row driver side impact sensor.
    • Repower the system. Do not  prove out the system at this time. Refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING .
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: On-Demand Self Test.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Flag DTC B2296.
    • Were any faults flagged against the second row driver side impact sensor? 
    1. Yes  : GO to  V70.
    2. No  : Fault corrected. GO to  V72.
  32. V32 INSPECT THE SECOND ROW PASSENGER SIDE IMPACT SENSOR MOUNTING SURFACE 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Depower the system. Refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING .
    • Inspect the second row passenger side impact sensor mounting and make sure that the retaining bolt is fully seated and tightened correctly.
    • Remove the second row passenger side impact sensor.
    • Visually inspect the second row passenger side impact sensor and mounting surface for damage, corrosion or dirt.
    • Was a significant amount of corrosion or dirt found, the second row passenger side impact sensor attached to the mounting surface incorrectly or was the impact sensor bolt not fully seated and tightened correctly? 
    1. Yes  : CLEAN and TIGHTEN the bolts or REPAIR the mounting surface as necessary. REINSTALL the second row passenger side impact sensor. GO to  V72.
    2. No  : GO to V33.
  33. V33 INSTALL THE SECOND ROW PASSENGER SIDE IMPACT SENSOR AND CARRY OUT THE ON-DEMAND SELF TEST 
    • Clean and repair the mounting surface as necessary.
    • Clean the second row passenger side impact sensor mounting bolt.
    • Install the second row passenger side impact sensor.
    • Repower the system. Do not  prove out the system at this time. Refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING .
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: On-Demand Self Test.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Flag DTC B2296.
    • Was DTC B2296 retrieved during the on-demand self test? 
    1. Yes  : GO to V34.
    2. No  : Fault corrected. GO to  V72.
  34. V34 CHECK THE SECOND ROW PASSENGER SIDE IMPACT SENSOR GROUND CIRCUIT 1644 (LB/WH) FOR HIGH RESISTANCE 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Depower the system. Refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING .
    • Disconnect: Second Row Passenger Side Impact Sensor C3212.
    • Measure the resistance between second row passenger side impact sensor C3212 pin 2, circuit 1644 (LB/WH), harness side and the second row passenger side impact sensor case ground.
    • Is the resistance less than 10 ohms? 
    1. Yes  : GO to  V36.
    2. No  : GO to V35.
  35. V35 CLEAN THE SECOND ROW PASSENGER SIDE IMPACT SENSOR MOUNTING SURFACE AND CARRY OUT THE ON-DEMAND SELF TEST 
    • Remove the second row passenger side impact sensor.
    • Clean and repair the mounting surface as necessary.
    • Clean the second row passenger side impact sensor mounting bolt.
    • Install the second row passenger side impact sensor.
    • Repower the system. Do not  prove out the system at this time. Refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING .
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: On-Demand Self Test.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Flag DTC B2296.
    • Was DTC B2296 retrieved during the on-demand self test? 
    1. Yes  : GO to V36.
    2. No  : Fault corrected. GO to  V72.
  36. V36 CHECK CIRCUIT 1643 (WH/RD) AND CIRCUIT 1644 (LB/WH) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE BETWEEN THE SECOND ROW PASSENGER SIDE IMPACT SENSOR AND THE RCM 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Depower the system. Refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING .
    • Disconnect: RCM C310a and C310b.
    • Disconnect: Second Row Passenger Side Impact Sensor C3212.
    • Repower the system. Do not  prove out the system at this time. Refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING .
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between second row passenger side impact sensor C3212 pin 1, circuit 1643 (WH/RD), harness side and ground; and between pin 2, circuit 1644 (LB/WH), harness side and ground.

    • Are the voltages less than 0.2 volt? 
    1. Yes  : GO to V37.
    2. No  : REPAIR circuit 1643 (WH/RD) or circuit 1644 (LB/WH). GO to  V72.
  37. V37 CHECK CIRCUIT 1643 (WH/RD) AND CIRCUIT 1644 (LB/WH) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND BETWEEN THE SECOND ROW PASSENGER SIDE IMPACT SENSOR AND THE RCM 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Depower the system. Refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING .
    • Measure the resistance between second row passenger side impact sensor 3212 pin 1, circuit 1643 (WH/RD), harness side and ground; and between pin 2, circuit 1644 (LB/WH), harness side and ground.

    • Are the resistances greater than 1,000,000 ohms? 
    1. Yes  : GO to V38.
    2. No  : REPAIR circuit 1643 (WH/RD) or 1644 (LB/WH). GO to  V72.

    • Is the resistance less than 0.5 ohm? 
    1. Yes  : GO to V39.
    2. No  : REPAIR circuit 1643 (WH/RD). GO to  V72.
  39. V39 CHECK CIRCUIT 1644 (LB/WH) FOR AN OPEN BETWEEN THE RCM AND THE SECOND ROW PASSENGER SIDE IMPACT SENSOR

    • Is the resistance less than 0.5 ohm? 
    1. Yes  : GO to V40.
    2. No  : REPAIR circuit 1644 (LB/WH). GO to  V72.

    1. Yes  : GO to V41.
    2. No  : REPAIR circuit 1643 (WH/RD) and circuit 1644 (LB/WH). GO to  V72.

    • Connect: RCM C310a and C310b.

    1. Yes  : GO to  V70.
    2. No  : Fault corrected. GO to  V72.
  42. V42 INSPECT THE RH FRONT IMPACT SEVERITY SENSOR MOUNTING SURFACE 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Depower the system. Refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING .
    • Inspect the RH front impact severity sensor mounting and make sure that the retaining bolt is fully seated and tightened correctly.
    • Remove the RH front impact severity sensor. Refer to FRONT IMPACT SEVERITY SENSOR .
    • Visually inspect the RH front impact severity sensor and mounting surface for damage, corrosion or dirt.
    • Was a significant amount of corrosion or dirt found, the RH front impact severity sensor attached to the mounting surface incorrectly or was the RH front impact severity sensor bolt not fully seated and tightened correctly? 
    1. Yes  : CLEAN and TIGHTEN bolt or REPAIR the mounting surface as necessary. REINSTALL the RH front impact severity sensor. GO to  V72.

  44. V44 CHECK THE RH FRONT IMPACT SEVERITY SENSOR GROUND CIRCUIT 618 (VT/LG) FOR HIGH RESISTANCE 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Depower the system. Refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING .
    • Disconnect: RH Front Impact Severity Sensor C1466.
    • Measure the resistance between RH front impact severity sensor C1466 pin 2, circuit 618 (VT/LG), harness side and the front impact severity sensor case ground.
    • Is the resistance less than 10 ohms? 
    1. Yes  : GO to  V46.
    2. No  : GO to V45.
  45. V45 CLEAN THE RH FRONT IMPACT SEVERITY SENSOR MOUNTING SURFACE AND CARRY OUT THE ON-DEMAND SELF-TEST 
    • Remove the RH front impact severity sensor. Refer to FRONT IMPACT SEVERITY SENSOR .
    • Clean and repair the mounting surface as necessary.
    • Clean the RH front impact severity sensor mounting bolt.
    • Install the RH front impact severity sensor. Refer to FRONT IMPACT SEVERITY SENSOR .
    • Repower the system. Do not  prove out the system at this time. Refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING .
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: On-Demand Self Test.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Flag DTC B2296.
    • Was DTC B2296 retrieved during the on-demand self test? 
    1. Yes  : GO to V46.
    2. No  : Fault corrected. GO to  V72.
  46. V46 CHECK CIRCUIT 617 (PK/OG) AND CIRCUIT 618 (VT/LG) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE BETWEEN THE RCM AND THE RH FRONT IMPACT SEVERITY SENSOR 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Depower the system. Refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING .
    • Disconnect: RCM C310a and C310b.
    • Disconnect: RH Front Impact Severity Sensor C1466.
    • Repower the system. Do not  prove out the system at this time. Refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING .
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between the RH front impact severity sensor C1466 pin 1, circuit 617 (PK/OG), harness side and ground; and between the front impact severity sensor C1466 pin 2, circuit 618 (VT/LG), harness side and ground.

    • Are the voltages less than 0.2 volt?

    • Were any faults flagged against the RH front impact severity sensor? 
    1. Yes  : GO to  V70.
    2. No  : Fault corrected. GO to  V72.
  51. V51 INSPECT THE LH FRONT IMPACT SEVERITY SENSOR MOUNTING SURFACE 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Depower the system. Refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING .
    • Inspect the LH front impact severity sensor mounting and make sure that the retaining bolt is fully seated and tightened correctly.
    • Remove the LH front impact severity sensor. Refer to FRONT IMPACT SEVERITY SENSOR .
    • Visually inspect the LH front impact severity sensor and mounting surface for damage, corrosion or dirt.
    • Was a significant amount of corrosion or dirt found, the LH front impact severity sensor attached to the mounting surface incorrectly or was the LH front impact severity sensor bolt not fully seated and tightened correctly? 
    1. Yes  : CLEAN and TIGHTEN bolt or REPAIR the mounting surface as necessary. REINSTALL the LH front impact severity sensor. GO to  V72.
    2. No  : GO to V52.
  52. V52 INSTALL THE LH FRONT IMPACT SEVERITY SENSOR AND CARRY OUT THE ON-DEMAND SELF TEST 
    • Clean and repair the mounting surface as necessary.
    • Clean the LH front impact severity sensor mounting bolt.
    • Install the LH front impact severity sensor. Refer to FRONT IMPACT SEVERITY SENSOR .
    • Repower the system. Do not  prove out the system at this time. Refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING .
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: On-Demand Self Test.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Flag DTC B2296.
    • Was DTC B2296 retrieved during the on-demand self test? 
    1. Yes  : GO to V53.
    2. No  : Fault corrected. GO to  V72.
  53. V53 CHECK THE LH FRONT IMPACT SEVERITY SENSOR GROUND CIRCUIT 620 (VT/LB) FOR HIGH RESISTANCE 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Depower the system. Refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING .
    • Disconnect: LH Front Impact Severity Sensor C1465.
    • Measure the resistance between LH front impact severity sensor C1465 pin 2, circuit 620 (VT/LB), harness side and the front impact severity sensor case ground.
    • Is the resistance less than 10 ohms? 
    1. Yes  : GO to  V55.
    2. No  : GO to V54.
  54. V54 CLEAN THE LH FRONT IMPACT SEVERITY SENSOR MOUNTING SURFACE AND CARRY OUT THE ON-DEMAND SELF-TEST 
    • Remove the LH front impact severity sensor. Refer to FRONT IMPACT SEVERITY SENSOR .
    • Clean and repair the mounting surface as necessary.
    • Clean the LH front impact severity sensor mounting bolt.
    • Install the LH front impact severity sensor. Refer to FRONT IMPACT SEVERITY SENSOR .
    • Repower the system. Do not  prove out the system at this time. Refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING .
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: On-Demand Self Test.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Flag DTC B2296.
    • Was DTC B2296 retrieved during the on-demand self test? 
    1. Yes  : GO to V55.
    2. No  : Fault corrected. GO to  V72.
  55. V55 CHECK CIRCUIT 619 (PK/WH) AND CIRCUIT 620 (VT/LB) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE BETWEEN THE RCM AND THE LH FRONT IMPACT SEVERITY SENSOR 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Depower the system. Refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING .
    • Disconnect: RCM C310a and C310b.
    • Disconnect: LH Front Impact Severity Sensor C1465.
    • Repower the system. Do not  prove out the system at this time. Refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING .
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between the LH front impact severity sensor C1465 pin 1, circuit 619 (PK/WH), harness side and ground; and between the LH front impact severity sensor C1465 pin 2, circuit 620 (VT/LB), harness side and ground.

    • Are the voltages less than 0.2 volt? 
    1. Yes  : GO to V56.
    2. No  : REPAIR circuit 619 (PK/WH) or circuit 620 (VT/LB). GO to  V72.
  56. V56 CHECK CIRCUIT 619 (PK/WH) AND CIRCUIT 620 (VT/LB) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND BETWEEN THE RCM AND THE LH FRONT IMPACT SEVERITY SENSOR 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Depower the system. Refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING .
    • Disconnect: LH impact severity sensor C1465 (if not previously disconnected).
    • Disconnect: RCM C310a and C310b (if not previously disconnected).
    • Measure the resistance between the LH front impact severity sensor C1465 pin 1, circuit 619 (PK/WH), harness side and ground; and between LH front impact severity sensor C1465 pin 2, circuit 620 (VT/LB), harness side and ground.

    • Are the resistances greater than 1,000,000 ohms? 
    1. Yes  : GO to V57.
    2. No  : REPAIR circuit 619 (PK/WH) or circuit 620 (VT/LB). GO to  V72.
  57. V57 CHECK CIRCUIT 619 (PK/WH) AND CIRCUIT 620 (VT/LB) FOR AN OPEN BETWEEN THE RCM AND THE LH FRONT IMPACT SEVERITY SENSOR 
    • Measure the resistance between RCM C310a pin 19, circuit 619 (PK/WH), harness side and LH front impact severity sensor C1465 pin 1, circuit 619 (PK/WH), harness side; and between RCM C310a pin 20, circuit 620 (VT/LB), harness side and LH front impact severity sensor C1465 pin 2, circuit 620 (VT/LB), harness side.

    • Are the resistances less than 0.5 ohm? 
    1. Yes  : GO to V58.
    2. No  : REPAIR circuit 619 (PK/WH) or circuit 620 (VT/LB). GO to  V72.
  58. V58 CHECK CIRCUIT 619 (PK/WH) FOR A SHORT TO CIRCUIT 620 (VT/LB) BETWEEN THE RCM AND THE LH FRONT IMPACT SEVERITY SENSOR 
    • Measure the resistance between LH front impact severity sensor C1465 pin 1, circuit 619 (PK/WH), harness side and pin 2, circuit 620 (VT/LB), harness side.

    • Is the resistance greater than 1,000,000 ohms? 
    1. Yes  : GO to V59.
    2. No  : REPAIR circuit 619 (PK/WH) and circuit 620 (VT/LB). GO to  V72.
  59. V59 CHECK THE LH FRONT IMPACT SEVERITY SENSOR 
    • Connect: RCM C310a and C310b.
    • Install a known good LH front impact severity sensor.
    • Repower the system. Do not  prove out the system at this time. Refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING .
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: On-Demand Self Test.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Flag DTC B2296.
    • Were any faults flagged against the LH front impact severity sensor? 
    1. Yes  : GO to  V70.
    2. No  : Fault corrected. GO to  V72.
  60. V60 CHECK CIRCUIT 619 (PK/WH) AND CIRCUIT 620 (VT/LB) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE BETWEEN THE RCM AND THE LH FRONT IMPACT SEVERITY SENSOR 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Depower the system. Refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING .
    • Disconnect: RCM C310a and C310b.
    • Disconnect: LH Front Impact Severity Sensor C1465.
    • Repower the system. Do not  prove out the system at this time. Refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING .
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between LH front impact severity sensor C1465 pin 2, circuit 620 (VT/LB), harness side and ground; and between LH front impact severity sensor C1465 pin 1, circuit 619 (PK/WH), harness side and ground.

    • Are the voltages less than 0.2 volt? 
    1. Yes  : GO to  V70.
    2. No  : REPAIR circuit 619 (PK/WH) or circuit 620 (VT/LB). GO to  V72.
  61. V61 CHECK CIRCUIT 617 (PK/OG) AND CIRCUIT 618 (VT/LG) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE BETWEEN THE RCM AND THE RH FRONT IMPACT SEVERITY SENSOR

    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between RH front impact severity sensor C1466 pin 2, circuit 618 (VT/LG), harness side and ground; and between RH front impact severity sensor C1466 pin 1, circuit 617 (PK/OG), harness side and ground.

    • Are the voltages less than 0.2 volt? 
    1. Yes  : GO to  V70.
    2. No  : REPAIR circuit 617 (PK/OG) or circuit 618 (VT/LG). GO to  V72.
  62. V62 CHECK CIRCUIT 1261 (WH/LG) AND CIRCUIT 1262 (BN/LG) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE BETWEEN THE RCM AND THE FIRST ROW DRIVER SIDE IMPACT SENSOR 
    • Key in OFF position.

    • Disconnect: First Row Driver Side Impact Sensor C3209.
    • Repower the system. Do not  prove out the system at this time. Refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING .
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between first row driver side impact sensor C3209 pin 1, circuit 1261 (WH/LG), harness side and ground; and between first row driver side impact sensor C3209 pin 2, circuit 1262 (BN/LG), harness side and ground.

    • Are the voltages less than 0.2 volt? 
    1. Yes  : GO to  V70.
    2. No  : REPAIR circuit 1261 (WH/LG) or circuit 1262 (BN/LG). GO to  V72.
  63. V63 CHECK CIRCUIT 1641 (VT) AND CIRCUIT 1642 (DG/WH) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE BETWEEN THE RCM AND THE SECOND ROW DRIVER SIDE IMPACT SENSOR 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Depower the system. Refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING .
    • Disconnect: RCM C310a and C310b.
    • Disconnect: First Row Driver Side Impact Sensor C321.
    • Repower the system. Do not  prove out the system at this time. Refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING .
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between first row driver side impact sensor C321 pin 1, circuit 1641 (VT), harness side and ground; and between first row driver side impact sensor C321 pin 2, circuit 1642 (DG/WH), harness side and ground.

    • Are the voltages less than 0.2 volt? 
    1. Yes  : GO to  V70.
    2. No  : REPAIR circuit 1641 (VT) or circuit 1642 (DG/WH). GO to  V72.
  64. V64 CHECK CIRCUIT 1261 (WH/LG) AND CIRCUIT 1262 (BN/LG) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND BETWEEN THE RCM AND THE FIRST ROW DRIVER SIDE IMPACT SENSOR 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Depower the system. Refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING .
    • Disconnect: RCM C310a and C310b.
    • Disconnect: First Row Driver Side Impact Sensor C3209.
    • Measure the resistance between first row driver side impact sensor C3209 pin 1, circuit 1261 (WH/LG), harness side and ground; and between first row driver side impact sensor C3209 pin 2, circuit 1262 (BN/LG), harness side and ground.

    • Are the resistances greater than 1,000,000 ohms? 
    1. Yes  : GO to  V70.
    2. No  : REPAIR circuit 1261 (WH/LG) or circuit 1262 (BN/LG). GO to  V72.
  65. V65 CHECK CIRCUIT 1641 (VT) AND CIRCUIT 1642 (DG/WH) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND BETWEEN THE RCM AND THE SECOND ROW DRIVER SIDE IMPACT SENSOR 
    • Key in OFF position.

    • Measure the resistance between second row driver side impact sensor C321 pin 1, circuit 1641 (VT), harness side and ground; and between second row driver side impact sensor C321 pin 2, circuit 1642 (DG/WH), harness side and ground.

    • Are the resistances greater than 1,000,000 ohms? 
    1. Yes  : GO to  V70.
    2. No  : REPAIR circuit 1641 (VT) or circuit 1642 (DG/WH). GO to  V72.
  66. V66 CHECK CIRCUIT 1263 (WH) AND CIRCUIT 1264 (BN) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE BETWEEN THE RCM AND THE FIRST ROW PASSENGER SIDE IMPACT SENSOR

    • Repower the system. Do not  prove out the system at this time. Refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING .
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between first row passenger side impact sensor C3211 pin 1, circuit 1263 (WH), harness side and ground; and between first row passenger side impact sensor C3211 pin 2, circuit 1264 (BN), harness side and ground.

    • Are the voltages less than 0.2 volt? 
    1. Yes  : GO to  V70.
    2. No  : REPAIR circuit 1263 (WH) or circuit 1264 (BN). GO to  V72.

    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between first row driver side impact sensor C3212 pin 1, circuit 1643 (WH/RD), harness side and ground; and between first row driver side impact sensor C3212 pin 2, circuit 1644 (LB/WH), harness side and ground.

    • Are the voltages less than 0.2 volt? 
    1. Yes  : GO to  V70.
    2. No  : REPAIR circuit 1643 (WH/RD) or circuit 1644 (LB/WH). GO to  V72.
  68. V68 CHECK CIRCUIT 1263 (WH) AND CIRCUIT 1264 (BN) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND BETWEEN THE RCM AND THE FIRST ROW PASSENGER SIDE IMPACT SENSOR 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Depower the system. Refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING .
    • Disconnect: RCM C310a and C310b.
    • Disconnect: First Row Passenger Side Impact Sensor C3211.
    • Measure the resistance between first row passenger side impact sensor C3211 pin 1, circuit 1263 (WH), harness side and ground; and between first row driver side impact sensor C3211 pin 2, circuit 1264 (BN), harness side and ground.

    • Are the resistances greater than 1,000,000 ohms? 
    1. Yes  : GO to  V70.
    2. No  : REPAIR circuit 1263 (WH) or circuit 1264 (BN). GO to  V72.
  69. V69 CHECK CIRCUIT 1643 (WH/RD) AND CIRCUIT 1644 (LB/WH) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND BETWEEN THE RCM AND THE SECOND ROW PASSENGER SIDE IMPACT SENSOR 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Depower the system. Refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING .
    • Disconnect: RCM C310a and C310b.
    • Disconnect: Second Row Passenger Side Impact Sensor C3212.
    • Measure the resistance between second row passenger side impact sensor C3212 pin 1, circuit 1643 (WH/RD), harness side and ground; and between second row passenger side impact sensor C3212 pin 2, circuit 1644 (LB/WH), harness side and ground.

    • Are the resistances greater than 1,000,000 ohms? 
    1. Yes  : GO to V70.
    2. No  : REPAIR circuit 1643 (WH/RD) or circuit 1644 (LB/WH). GO to  V72.
  70. V70 CONFIRM THE RCM FAULT 
    NOTE: Make sure all restraint system diagnostic tools, sensor electrical connectors, and the RCM electrical connector are connected before carrying out the on-demand self test. If not, erroneous DTCs will be recorded.
    1. Yes  : If a " " was flagged by the diagnostic tool, CARRY OUT the entire pinpoint test. INSTALL a new RCM. REFER to RESTRAINTS CONTROL MODULE (RCM) . GO to  V72.
    2. No  : CHECK for causes of the intermittent fault. ATTEMPT to recreate the hard fault by flexing the wire harness and cycling the ignition key frequently. REPAIR any intermittent concerns found. GO to  V72.
  71. V71 CHECK FOR AN INTERMITTENT FAULT 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: On-Demand Self Test.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Flag DTC B2296/Record All Flagged Faults.
    • Was DTC B2296 retrieved during the on-demand self test? 
    1. Yes  : This is a hard fault. The fault condition is still present. This fault cannot be cleared until it is corrected and the DTC is no longer retrieved during the on-demand self test.

      If a flagged fault of " " was recorded, multiple faults exist and the entire pinpoint test must be carried out.

      For first row driver side impact (F_D_SEN) sensor with a mounting/communications (COMM) fault, GO to  V2.

      For first row driver side impact sensor (F_D_SEN) with an internal (INT) fault, INSTALL a new first row driver side impact sensor. REFER to SIDE IMPACT SENSOR - FIRST ROW, B-PILLAR . GO to V72.

      For first row passenger side impact sensor (F_P_SEN) with a mounting/communications (COMM) fault, GO to  V12.

      For first row passenger side impact sensor (F_P_SEN) with an internal (INT) fault, INSTALL a new first row passenger side impact sensor. REFER to SIDE IMPACT SENSOR - FIRST ROW, B-PILLAR . GO to V72.

      For second row driver side impact sensor (D_2_SEN) with a mounting/communication (COMM) fault, GO to  V22.

      For second row driver side impact sensor (D_2_SEN) with an internal (INT) fault, INSTALL a new second row driver side impact sensor. REFER to SIDE IMPACT SENSOR - FREESTYLE, SECOND ROW, C-PILLAR  or SIDE IMPACT SENSOR - FIVE HUNDRED, MONTEGO, SECOND ROW, C-PILLAR . GO to V72.

      For second row passenger side impact sensor (P_2_SEN) with a mounting/communications (COMM) fault, GO to  V32.

      For second row passenger side impact sensor (P_2_SEN) with an internal (INT) fault, INSTALL a new second row passenger side impact sensor. REFER to SIDE IMPACT SENSOR - FREESTYLE, SECOND ROW, C-PILLAR  or SIDE IMPACT SENSOR - FIVE HUNDRED, MONTEGO, SECOND ROW, C-PILLAR . GO to V72.

      For RH front impact severity sensor (FNTPSEN) with a mounting/communications (COMM) fault, GO to  V42.

      For LH front impact severity sensor (FNT_SEN) with a mounting/communications (COMM) fault, GO to  V51.

      For LH front impact severity sensor (FTSEN2) with a short to ground (--G) fault, GO to  V56.

      For RH front impact severity sensor (FNTPSEN) with an internal fault (INT) fault, INSTALL a new RH front impact severity sensor. REFER to FRONT IMPACT SEVERITY SENSOR . GO to V72.

      For RH front impact severity sensor (FTSEN3) with a short to ground (--G) fault, GO to  V47.

      For LH front impact severity sensor (FNT_SEN) with an internal fault (INT) fault, INSTALL a new LH front impact severity sensor. REFER to FRONT IMPACT SEVERITY SENSOR . GO to V72.

      For LH front impact severity sensor (FTSEN2) with a short to battery (-B-) fault, GO to  V60.

      For RH front impact severity sensor (FTSEN3) with a short to battery (-B-) fault, GO to  V61.

      For first row driver side impact sensor (D_1_SEN) with a short to battery (-B-) fault, GO to  V62.

      For second row driver side impact sensor (D_2_SEN) with a short to battery (-B-) fault, GO to  V63.

      For first row driver side impact sensor (D_1_SEN) with a short to ground (--G) fault, GO to  V64.

      For second row driver side impact sensor (D_2_SEN) with a short to ground (--G) fault, GO to  V65.

      For first row passenger side impact sensor (P_1_SEN) with a short to battery (-B-) fault, GO to  V66.

      For second row passenger side impact sensor (P_2_SEN) with a short to battery (-B-) fault, GO to  V67.

      For first row passenger side impact sensor (P_1_SEN) with a short to ground (--G) fault, GO to  V68.

      For second row passenger side impact sensor (P_2_SEN) with a short to ground (--G) fault, GO to  V69.

    2. No  : CHECK for causes of the intermittent fault. ATTEMPT to recreate the hard fault by flexing the wire harness and cycling the ignition key frequently. REPAIR any intermittent concerns found. GO to V72.
  72. V72 CHECK FOR ADDITIONAL DTCs 
    • Refer to the continuous DTCs recorded during Step  V1.
    • Were any continuous DTCs retrieved during Step   V1 ? 
    1. Yes  : Do not clear any DTCs until all DTCs have been resolved. GO to the RESTRAINTS CONTROL MODULE (RCM) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) TABLE  for pinpoint test direction.
    2. No  : RECONNECT the system. If previously directed to deactivate the system, REACTIVATE the system. REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEACTIVATION AND REACTIVATION . REPOWER the system. REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING . PROVE OUT the system. CLEAR all DTCs.
