Removal & Installation: CLOCKSPRING: Installation

- Ensure front wheels are in straight-ahead position. Center clockspring if necessary. See CLOCKSPRING CENTERING under ADJUSTMENTS. If installing new clockspring, remove locking mechanism pull ring. Maintain clockspring centered position. With flats on clockspring aligned with flats on steering column, slide clockspring onto steering column and install by firmly pushing down to engage retaining clips.
- Route clockspring wiring down column assembly and position in wiring harness retainers. Remove air bag simulator from vehicle harness side of clockspring connector. Connect 2 clockspring connectors to vehicle harness connectors. Secure connectors to connector bracket.
- Install key-in-ignition warning indicator switch. Install PATS transmitter. Install upper steering column shroud. Install ignition switch lock cylinder. Install lower steering column shroud. Install lower instrument panel steering column cover, parking brake and hood release handles. Install central junction block cover.
- Install upper steering column cover. Install steering wheel. If reusing existing clockspring, remove tape applied to clockspring during removal procedure. Install steering wheel.
- Connect air bag simulator to upper clockspring connector. Connect negative battery cable. With air bag simulators installed at all deployable air bag system devices, perform system operation check. See SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK . Disconnect negative battery cable. Wait at least one minute for back-up power supply to deplete stored energy. Remove air bag simulator from upper clockspring connector.
- To complete installation, reverse removal procedure. Activate air bag system. See ACTIVATING SYSTEM under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM.
