Pinpoint Test B: The Luggage Compartment Lid Is Inoperative - From The Luggage Compartment Lid Release Switch And Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) Transmitter: Testing
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2005 Mercury Montego, 2005 Ford Freestyle, and 2005 Ford Five Hundred. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- B1 CHECK THE SMART JUNCTION BOX (SJB) LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT LID/LIFTGATE OPERATION
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: SJB luggage compartment lid/liftgate release active command.
- Does the luggage compartment lid/liftgate operate correctly?
- Yes : GO to B2.
- No : GO to B5.
- B2 CHECK THE LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT LID RELEASE SWITCH
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Luggage Compartment Lid Release Switch C2269.
- On vehicles built before 1/2005, measure the resistance between the luggage compartment lid release switch C2269-2, component side and the luggage compartment lid release switch C2269-7, component side while pressing and releasing the button.
- On vehicles built after 1/2005, measure the resistance between the luggage compartment release switch C2269-4, component side and the luggage compartment release switch C2269-7, component side.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms with the button pressed and greater than 10,000 ohms with the button released?
- Yes : GO to B3.
- No : INSTALL a new luggage compartment lid release switch. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- B3 CHECK CIRCUIT 1205 (BK) FOR AN OPEN
- On vehicles built before 1/2005, measure the resistance between the luggage compartment lid release switch C2269-2, circuit 1205 (BK), harness side and ground.
- On vehicles built after 1/2005, measure the resistance between the luggage compartment release switch C2269-4, circuit 1205 (BK), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- Yes : GO to B4.
- No : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- B4 CHECK CIRCUIT 1092 (PK/OG) FOR AN OPEN OR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Disconnect: SJB C2280d.
- On vehicles built before 1/2005, measure the resistance between the luggage compartment lid release switch C2269-7, circuit 1092 (PK/OG), harness side and the SJB C2280d-10, circuit 1092 (PK/OG), harness side; and between the luggage compartment lid release switch C2269-7, circuit 1092 (PK/OG), harness side and ground.
- On vehicles built after 1/2005, measure the resistance between the luggage compartment lid release switch C2269-7, circuit 1092 (PK/OG), harness side and the SJB C2280d-1, circuit 1092 (PK/OG), harness side; and between the luggage compartment lid release switch C2269-7, circuit 1092 (PK/OG), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the SJB and luggage compartment lid release switch, and greater than 10,000 ohms between the luggage compartment lid release switch and ground?
- Yes : GO to B8.
- No : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- B5 CHECK CIRCUIT 84 (VT/YE) FOR AN OPEN OR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Disconnect: SJB C2280e.
- Disconnect: Luggage Compartment Lid Latch C4302.
- Measure the resistance between the SJB C2280e-15, circuit 84 (VT/YE), harness side and the luggage compartment lid latch C4302-2, circuit 84 (VT/YE), harness side; and between the luggage compartment lid latch C4302-2, circuit 84 (VT/YE), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the SJB and the luggage compartment lid actuator, and greater than 10,000 ohms between the luggage compartment lid actuator and ground?
- Yes : GO to B6.
- No : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- B6 CHECK CIRCUIT 1205 (BK) FOR AN OPEN
- Measure the resistance between the luggage compartment lid latch 4302-3, circuit 1205 (BK), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- Yes : GO to B7.
- No : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- B7 CHECK THE LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT LID LATCH
- Connect a fused (5A) jumper wire between the luggage compartment lid latch C4302-2, component side and the battery positive terminal; and between the luggage compartment lid latch C4302-3, component side and ground.
- Does the luggage compartment lid actuator operate correctly?
- Yes : GO to B8.
- No : INSTALL a new luggage compartment lid latch. REFER to LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT LID LATCH . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- B8 CHECK FOR CORRECT SJB MODULE OPERATION
- Disconnect all the SJB module connectors.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- pushed-out pins
- Connect all the SJB module connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
- Yes : INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES . PROGRAM all RKE transmitters. REFER to REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY TRANSMITTER PROGRAMMING . INFORM the customer that any RKE transmitters not present need to be programmed. TEST the system for normal operation.
- No : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
