Removal and Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2005 Mercury Montego, 2005 Ford Freestyle, and 2005 Ford Five Hundred. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING & LIFTING .
  2. Remove the RH catalytic converter. For additional information, refer to EXHAUST SYSTEM .
  3. Disconnect the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) electrical connector.
  4. Remove the 3 bolts and the RH exhaust manifold heat shield
    • To install, tighten to 11 Nm (8 lb-ft).
  5. Disconnect the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system module tube from the exhaust manifold.
    • To install, tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).
  6. Remove and discard the 6 RH exhaust manifold nuts.
    • To install, tighten to 20 Nm (15 lb-ft).
  7. Remove and discard the 3 studs closest to the rear of the cylinder head.
    • To install, tighten to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft).
  8. Remove the RH exhaust manifold and gasket.
    • Discard the exhaust manifold gasket.
  9. Remove and discard the 3 remaining studs.
    • To install, tighten to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft).
  10. NOTE: Make sure to install a new exhaust manifold gasket, studs and nuts.
  11. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
