Driver-Side Air Bag Module: Removal

  1. Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS . Driver-side air bag module is located in center of steering wheel. Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM.
  2. Ensure front wheels are in straight-ahead position. Remove 2 back cover plugs from rear of steering wheel. Remove 2 air bag module retaining screw and washer assemblies and disconnect electrical connectors. Remove air bag module. See Figure.
  3. Remove air bag simulator from lower clockspring connector and reconnect connector. Install Air Bag Simulator (418-F088/105-R0012) on upper clockspring connector. Reconnect battery(s). With air bag simulators installed at all deployable devices, perform system operation check. See SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK . Disconnect battery(s). Wait at least one minute for back-up power supply to deplete stored energy.
