Symptom Chart

SYMPTOM CHART

Condition Possible Sources Action
  • Mirror vibrates
  • Mirror glass adjustment motor screws loose.
  • REMOVE mirror glass and TIGHTEN mirror glass adjustment motor screws.
  • Mirror mounting nuts loose.
  • TIGHTEN nuts to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft).
  • Aftermarket air deflector/stone shields.
  • If possible, REMOVE aftermarket air deflector/stone shield, then ROAD TEST the vehicle. If concern is no longer present, advise customer that aftermarket components were causing undesired vibration.
  • Wind noise
  • Foam gasket between mirror bracket and door is missing or damaged.
  • VERIFY gasket is present and in good condition. REPOSITION gasket or INSTALL a new foam gasket between mirror bracket and door frame if necessary.
  • The mirrors are inoperative
  • Fuse.
  • Circuitry.
  • Exterior mirror control switch.
  • A single mirror is inoperative
  • Circuitry.
  • Exterior mirror motor.
  • A single mirror does not function with switch logic
  • Exterior mirror control switch.
  • Exterior mirror motor.
  • Circuitry.
  • The auto-dimming mirror does not operate correctly
  • Obstructed rear-facing sensor.
    • Stickers, window decals, tags.
    • Non-OEM window tinting.
  • Obstructed forward-facing sensor.
    • Stickers, window decals, tags.
    • Non-OEM window tinting.
  • If possible, REMOVE the obstruction. If the obstruction cannot be removed, GO to PINPOINT TEST D  to TEST the auto-dimming mirror for correct function.
  • Light source near or inside of vehicle.
  • None. Any light source the rear-facing sensor is exposed to can be considered glare.
  • Vehicle inside garage or tunnel.
  • None. Ambient light conditions are similar to nighttime.
  • Fuse.
  • Auto-dimming interior mirror.
  • Circuitry.
  • The heated exterior mirror does not defrost - both heated exterior mirrors
  • Fuse.
  • Heated exterior mirror glass.
  • Circuitry.
  • The heated exterior mirror does not defrost - left heated exterior mirror glass.
  • Left heated exterior mirror
  • Circuitry.
GO to PINPOINT TEST F .
  • The heated exterior mirror does not defrost - right heated exterior mirror
  • Right heated exterior mirror glass.
  • Circuitry.
  • The power folding mirrors do not operate
  • Exterior mirror control switch.
  • Power folding mirror relay.
  • Power folding mirror.
  • Circuitry.
