Pinpoint Test B: The Daytime Running Lamps Are On With The Ignition Switch Off

- B1 CHECK THE BASE HEADLAMP CIRCUITRY
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Daytime Running Lamps (DRL) Resistor C196.
- Do the headlamps continue to illuminate?
- Yes : REFER to EXTERIOR LIGHTING to diagnose the low beam headlamps.
- No : GO to B2.
- B2 CHECK CIRCUIT 471 (OG/LG) FOR A SHORT TO POWER
- Connect: DRL Resistor C196.
- Disconnect: DRL Relay C1000.
- Do the headlamps continue to illuminate?
- Yes : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- No : GO to B3.
- B3 CHECK CIRCUIT 1731 (RD/BK) FOR A SHORT TO POWER
- Connect: DRL Relay C1000.
- Disconnect: DRL Enable Relay C1439.
- Do the headlamps continue to illuminate?
- Yes : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- No : GO to B4.
- B4 CHECK THE DRL ENABLE RELAY
- Carry out the DRL enable relay component test. Refer to COMPONENT TESTING - F150 PICKUP article .
- Is the DRL enable relay OK?
- Yes : GO to B5.
- No : INSTALL a new DRL relay. TEST the system for normal operation.
- B5 CHECK CIRCUIT 295 (LB/PK) FOR A SHORT TO POWER
- Connect: DRL Enable Relay C1439.
- Disconnect: Central Junction Box (CJB) C270b.
- Do the headlamps continue to illuminate?
- Yes : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- No : GO to B6.
- B6 CHECK THE CJB
- Connect: CJB C270b.
- Disconnect: CJB C270g.
- Do the headlamps continue to illuminate?
- Yes : REPAIR or INSTALL a new CJB. TEST the system for normal operation.
- No : GO to B7.
- B7 CHECK CIRCUIT 295 (LB/PK) FOR SHORT TO POWER
- Connect: CJB C270g.
- Disconnect: Ignition Switch C250.
- Do the headlamps continue to illuminate?
- Yes : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- No : INSTALL a new ignition switch. REFER to STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES . TEST the system for normal operation.
