Diagnostic Monitor
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Mercury Villager. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
Diagnostic monitor contains a microcomputer that monitors electrical system components and wiring. Diagnostic monitor performs a system self-check of internal circuits every time ignition switch is turned to RUN position. Monitor energizes AIR BAG warning light during initial system self-check and when a fault is detected. Faults are translated into flash codes and displayed through AIR BAG warning light. The monitor incorporates a primary impact sensor and a safing sensor. The sensors are not serviceable components.
