Removal & Installation (Aft-Axle Assembly)

  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. Raise and support vehicle. Remove stone shield retaining nuts and stone shield. Disconnect electrical connectors from fuel tank solenoid valves. Disconnect the high-pressure fuel line from the forward fuel tank solenoid valve. Install powertrain lift with tilting plate. Secure fuel tank assembly with a nylon tie-down strap. Remove front fuel tank assembly retaining nuts. Remove rear fuel tank assembly retaining bolts. Carefully lower and remove aft-axle fuel tank assembly from the vehicle. Remove fuel tank(s) from assembly as necessary.
  2. To install, reverse removal procedure. Align the identification marks on the fuel tank support straps and tanks. Lubricate NEW "O" rings with 5W-30 engine oil. After installation is complete, natural gas fuel lines must be leak tested. Perform COMPRESSED NATURAL GAS LEAK TEST under FUEL SYSTEMS in SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING - EEC-V - NGV article.
