Selector Lever Cable - Column Shift: Removal

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING & LIFTING .
  2. NOTE: 4.6/5.4L shown, 4.2L similar.

  3. Disconnect the shift cable from the transmission.
    1. Disconnect the cable from the manual lever.
    2. Disconnect the cable from the cable bracket.
  4. Remove the selector lever cable from the routing clip.

  5. Remove the 2 screws and the lower dash panel.

  6. Disconnect the shift cable from the steering column.
    1. Disconnect the shift cable from the transmission selector lever arm and support.
    2. Disconnect the shift cable from the steering column bracket.
    3. Remove and discard the shift cable retainer.

  7. Use a suitable tool to push the rubber grommet through the bulkhead.
  8. From the passenger compartment, remove the shift cable from the vehicle.
