Removal and Installation

WARNING:
Use of any other than approved DOT 3 motor vehicle brake fluid will cause permanent damage to brake components and will render the brakes inoperative. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.

CAUTION:
Brake fluid is harmful to painted and plastic surfaces. If brake fluid is spilled onto a painted or plastic surface, immediately wash it with water.
- Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES .
- Disconnect the brake fluid level warning switch electrical connector.
- Disconnect the brake booster vacuum hose from the brake booster vacuum fitting.
- Remove the 2 nuts and position the brake master cylinder aside.
- To install, tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).
- Remove the speed control deactivator switch from the brake pedal bracket.
- Remove the redundant self-locking pin cover and the self-locking pin.
- Position the stoplamp switch, booster rod and bushing from the brake pedal pin.
- Remove the 4 brake booster nuts.
- To install, tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.
NOTE:
The brake pedal must be connected to the booster rod before removing the speed control deactivator switch.
