Test A: DTC P0442: Small Leak In EVAP System: LS

  1. Inspect Components For Small Leaks -  Check for presence of fuel cap, but do not tighten at this time. Ensure canister vent solenoid hose is seated on canister vent solenoid. Check EVAP hoses between canister and purge valve, canister and fuel vapor vent valve and fuel vapor valve tube to fuel tank for cuts or loose connections. Check fuel filler pipe for damage. If problem was found, repair as necessary and go to next step. If no problems were found, go to next step.
  2. Check EVAP Test Port

    Disconnect and plug EVAP return tube at intake manifold. Perform evaporative emissions system leak test. See EVAPORATIVE EMISSIONS SYSTEM LEAK TEST . If system does not pass leak test, go to step  4. If system passes leak test, go to next step.
  3. Inspect Fuel Filler Cap

    Check fuel filler cap for damage. If fuel filler cap is damaged, replace cap and go to next step. If fuel filler cap is okay, go to next step.
  4. Check For Small Leaks At Fuel Filler Cap & EVAP Test Port

    Connect Evaporative Emissions System Leak Tester (134-00056) or equivalent to EVAP test port. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using scan tool, close canister vent solenoid. Select OUTPUT TEST MODE, FTP and VPID. Select ALL OFF mode. Press START button on scan tool to close canister vent solenoid. Pressurize system to 3.48 kPa (14 In. H2O). While system is under pressure, use ultrasonic leak detector to check fuel filler cap and EVAP test port for leaks. If a leak is detected, repair or replace leaking component and go to next step. If no leak is detected, install fuel filler cap and perform evaporative emissions system leak test. See EVAPORATIVE EMISSIONS SYSTEM LEAK TEST . If system passes leak test, perform EVAPORATIVE EMISSIONS REPAIR VERIFICATION DRIVE CYCLE. See DRIVE CYCLE PROCEDURES  under ADDITIONAL SYSTEM FUNCTIONS.
  5. Check For Leaks Other Than Fuel Filler Cap

    If system passed in step 2)  , perform evaporative emissions system leak test. See EVAPORATIVE EMISSIONS SYSTEM LEAK TEST . If system passes leak test, perform EVAPORATIVE EMISSIONS REPAIR VERIFICATION DRIVE CYCLE. See DRIVE CYCLE PROCEDURES  under ADDITIONAL SYSTEM FUNCTIONS. If system did not pass in step 2)  , replace fuel filler cap and go to next step.
  6. Check For Small Leak With Tester Set At Fill Position

    With leak tester still attached to test port, place tester in FILL position. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Ensure vent solenoid is closed. Pressurize system to 3.48 kPa (14 In. H2O). If system holds 3.43-3.48 kPa (13.8-14.0 In. H2O) pressure, go to next step. If system does not hold specified pressure, go to step  8.
  7. Check For Small Leaks In Complete EVAP System

    Pressurize system to 3.48 kPa (14 In. H2O). While system is under pressure, use ultrasonic leak detector to check EVAP system between the following places:
    • EVAP Return Tube & EVAP Canister Purge Valve
    • EVAP Canister Purge Valve & EVAP Canister Vent Solenoid
    • EVAP Canister Vent Solenoid & Fuel Tank
    • Fuel Filler Cap & Fuel Filler Tube

    If leak is detected, repair or replace component as necessary. Perform evaporative emissions system leak test. See EVAPORATIVE EMISSIONS SYSTEM LEAK TEST . If system passes leak test, perform EVAPORATIVE EMISSIONS REPAIR VERIFICATION DRIVE CYCLE. See DRIVE CYCLE PROCEDURES  under ADDITIONAL SYSTEM FUNCTIONS. If no leak is detected, discontinue pressurizing system and go to next step.

  8. Check For Small Leak Between EVAP Return Tube & Fuel Vapor Control Valve Tube

    Disconnect fuel vapor control valve tube from under vehicle at fuel tank and plug tube. Pressurize system. While system is under pressure, use ultrasonic leak detector to check EVAP system between intake manifold and plug end of fuel vapor control valve tube from under vehicle. If leak is detected, repair or replace as component necessary. Repeat step  6 to verify repair, then go to next step. If no leak is detected, go to next step.
  9. Check For Small Leak Between EVAP Canister & Fuel Filler Pipe

    Move EVAP tester from EVAP test port to fuel filler tube. Transfer plug in fuel vapor control valve tube from under vehicle to fuel vapor control valve tube. Ensure leak tester is in FILL position. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Pressurize system. While system is under pressure, use ultrasonic leak detector to check fuel vapor control valve tube to fuel tank. Check fuel tank pressure sensor, tubes between fuel tank, EVAP canister and canister vent solenoid and fuel filler pipe. If leak is detected, repair or replace component as necessary and go to next step. If no leak is detected, go to next step.
  10. Check EVAP System At Fuel Filler Pipe

    Reconnect fuel vapor control valve tube from under vehicle. Complete evaporative emissions system leak test. See EVAPORATIVE EMISSIONS SYSTEM LEAK TEST . If EVAP system passes leak test, perform EVAPORATIVE EMISSIONS REPAIR VERIFICATION DRIVE CYCLE. See DRIVE CYCLE PROCEDURES  under ADDITIONAL SYSTEM FUNCTIONS. If system did not pass, go to step  6.
