Shock Absorber

CAUTION:
Suspension fasteners are critical parts because they affect performance of vital components and systems and their failure can result in major service expense. New fasteners must be installed with the same part number or an equivalent part if installation is necessary. Do not use a replacement part of lesser quality or substitute design. Torque values must be used as specified during reassembly to make sure of correct retention of these parts. Orientation of the fasteners is also important. Make sure the fasteners are installed in the same direction as they were in when removed.
- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING & LIFTING .
- Use the jack to support and lower the rear axle housing assembly.
- Remove the 2 brake caliper bolts and the brake caliper. Position the brake caliper aside using mechanic's wire.
- Remove the upper shock absorber bolt.
- To install, tighten to 90 Nm (66 lb-ft).
- Remove the lower shock absorber bolt.
- To install, tighten to 90 Nm (66 lb-ft).
- Remove the shock absorber.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.
WARNING:
Lower the rear axle only enough to gain access to the rear spring.
CAUTION:
Do not allow the brake caliper to hang from the brake hose.
