Removal and Installation

WARNING:
Do not smoke or carry lighted tobacco or open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel-related components. Highly flammable mixtures are always present and can be ignited. Failure to follow these instructions can result in personal injury.
WARNING:
Fuel in the fuel system remains under high pressure even when the engine is not running. Before working on or disconnecting any of the fuel tubes or fuel system components, the fuel system pressure must be relieved. Failure to follow these instructions can result in personal injury.
- Disconnect the fuel hose spring lock coupling. Release the fuel system pressure. For additional information, refer to FUEL SYSTEM-GENERAL INFORMATION .
- Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES .
- Remove the air cleaner outlet pipe. For additional information, refer to INTAKE AIR DISTRIBUTION & FILTERING .
- Disconnect the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system module tube upper fitting.
- To install, tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).
- Loosen the EGR system module tube lower fitting and rotate to position aside.
- To install, tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).
- Disconnect the brake booster vacuum hose.
- Disconnect the throttle position (TP) sensor electrical connector.
- Disconnect the upper vapor tube and position aside.
- Disconnect the EGR system module vacuum and electrical connector.
- Disconnect the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) tube quick connect coupling at the rear of the intake manifold. For additional information, refer to FUEL SYSTEM-GENERAL INFORMATION .
- Disconnect the PCV vent tube quick connect coupling at the RH valve cover. For additional information, refer to FUEL SYSTEM-GENERAL INFORMATION .
- Disconnect the electronic throttle control electrical connector.
- Disconnect the throttle body (TB) spacer vacuum hose.
- Disconnect the injection pressure (IPR) sensor electrical connector.
- Disconnect the 8 fuel injector electrical connectors.
- Disconnect the IPR sensor vacuum connector.
- Remove the 4 fuel rail bolts.
- To install, tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
- Remove the fuel rail.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.
NOTE:
Install new O-ring seals on the fuel injectors.
NOTE:
Lubricate the new fuel injector O-ring seals with clean engine oil prior to installing the fuel rail.
