Removal and Installation

- If servicing the LH cylinder valvetrain components, remove the LH valve cover. For additional information, refer to VALVE COVER - LH .
- If servicing the RH cylinder valvetrain components, remove the RH valve cover. For additional information, refer to VALVE COVER - RH .
- Position the piston of the cylinder being serviced at the bottom of the stroke.
- Install the special tool between the valve spring coils to protect the valve stem seal from damage.
- Use the special tool to compress the valve springs and remove the camshaft roller follower.
- Repeat the previous steps for each of the camshaft roller followers being serviced.
- Remove the spark plugs.
- To install, tighten to 18 Nm (13 lb-ft).
- Use compressed air in the cylinder to hold both valves in position.
- Using the special tools, compress the valve spring and remove the valve spring retainer keys.
- Remove the valve spring retainers, and the valve spring.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.
NOTE:
The camshaft roller followers must be installed in their original locations. Record the camshaft roller follower locations.
NOTE:
The 3 rearmost camshaft roller followers on the RH side must use special tool 303-567 in the same manner as is shown in the illustration.

NOTE:
Lubricate the camshaft roller followers with clean engine oil prior to installation.
NOTE:
Carry out the following steps for each cylinder requiring service.
NOTE:
