Valve Cover - RH: Removal

- Remove the powertrain control module (PCM) and bracket. For additional information, refer to ELECTRONIC ENGINE CONTROLS .
- Disconnect the quick connect couplings and remove the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) tube. For additional information, refer to FUEL SYSTEM-GENERAL INFORMATION .
- Remove the bolt and position the transmission fluid level indicator tube aside.
- Release the 5 engine wiring harness retainers from the valve cover stud bolts.
- Remove the 3 RH valve cover bolts.
- Remove the 8 RH valve cover studs.
- Remove the nuts and position the suction accumulator aside.
- Remove the RH valve cover.
- Clean the valve cover mating surface of the cylinder head with silicone gasket remover and metal surface prep. Follow the directions on the packaging.
- Discard the valve cover gasket. Clean the valve cover gasket groove with soap and water or a suitable solvent.
CAUTION:
Do not use metal scrapers, wire brushes, power abrasive discs or other abrasive means to clean the sealing surfaces. These tools cause scratches and gouges which make leak paths. Use a plastic scraping tool to remove all traces of old sealant.
