Test B: DTC P0455: Gross Leak Or No Flow Detected Or DTC P1440: Very Small Or No Purge Flow Detected In System: Testing

  1. 1) Check For DTCs P0455 Or 1440

    DTC P0455 indicates -7.0 in. H2 O (-1.74 kPa) over a 30 second time period. DTC P1443 indicates -7.0 in. H2 O (-1.74 kPa) over 30 seconds time with more than 0.02 lb./min. vapor flow. If DTC P0455 is present, go to next step. If DTC P0455 is not present, go to step  3).
  2. 2) Visually Check For Gross EVAP System Leaks

    Check for presence of a fuel filler cap. DO NOT tighten or check installation at this time. Check that input port vacuum and EVAP return tube are connected to EVAP canister purge valve. Check that EVAP canister vent control solenoid is correctly attached to EVAP canister. Check for disconnected or cracked fuel vapor hoses or tubes between intake manifold and the following components: EVAP canister purge valve, EVAP canister and fuel tank. Check for damaged fuel tank or fuel filler pipe. Repair or install new components as necessary and go to next step. If hoses, tubes, connections and valves are okay, go to next step.
  3. 3) Check For EVAP System Leaks

    Disconnect EVAP return tube from intake manifold and plug EVAP return tube. Connect EVAP Emissions System Leak Tester (134-00056) to EVAP test port. Perform EVAPORATIVE EMISSIONS SYSTEM LEAK TEST . If system pressure remains at more than 8 in. H2 O (1.99 kPa), go to next step. If system pressure does not remain at more than 8 in. H2 O (1.99 kPa), verify fuel filler cap is installed correctly. Repair or install new components as necessary. Perform EVAPORATIVE EMISSIONS SYSTEM LEAK TEST . If system passes EVAPORATIVE EMISSIONS SYSTEM LEAK TEST, perform EVAPORATIVE EMISSION REPAIR VERIFICATION DRIVE CYCLE .
  4. 4) Check For Blockage Between EVAP Canister Purge Valve & EVAP Canister Vent Control Solenoid

    Disconnect EVAP canister inlet tube from EVAP canister and plug opening in EVAP canister. Close canister vent control solenoid. See CANISTER VENT CONTROL SOLENOID CLOSING PROCEDURE . Pressurize EVAP system to 14 in. H2 O (3.48 kPa). Open EVAP canister vent control solenoid. If pressure drops immediately, go to next step. If pressure does not drop immediately, install new components as necessary. Perform EVAPORATIVE EMISSIONS SYSTEM LEAK TEST . If system passes leak test, perform EVAPORATIVE EMISSION REPAIR VERIFICATION DRIVE CYCLE .
  5. 5) Check For Blockage Between Fuel Filler Pipe & EVAP Canister

    Connect EVAP emissions system leak tester to fuel filler pipe. Pressurize EVAP system to 26-28 in. H2 O (6.47-6.97 kPa). If pressure drops immediately, go to next step. If pressure does not drop immediately, install new fuel tank vapor line(s). Repeat this step to verify repair. Perform EVAPORATIVE EMISSIONS SYSTEM LEAK TEST . If system passes leak test, perform EVAPORATIVE EMISSION REPAIR VERIFICATION DRIVE CYCLE .
  6. 6) Check For Failed EVAP Canister Purge Valve Or EVAP Emission System Pressure Sensor

    If DTCs P0455 and P1440 are present, install a new EVAP canister purge valve. Perform EVAPORATIVE EMISSIONS SYSTEM LEAK TEST . If system passes leak test, perform EVAPORATIVE EMISSION REPAIR VERIFICATION DRIVE CYCLE . If DTCs P0455 or P1440 are not present, install a new EVAP system pressure sensor. Perform EVAPORATIVE EMISSIONS SYSTEM LEAK TEST . If system passes leak test, perform EVAPORATIVE EMISSION REPAIR VERIFICATION DRIVE CYCLE .
