Instrument Panel: Removal

- Depower the supplemental restraint system (SRS). For additional information, refer to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering in SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM .
- If equipped with a manual transmission, remove the four screws and position the gearshift lever boot aside.
- If equipped with a manual transmission, remove the bolts and the upper gearshift lever.
- Disconnect the electrical connectors and feed the connectors into the passenger compartment from the engine compartment.
- Disconnect the central junction box (CJB) cable at the junction block from the engine compartment.
- Remove the nut.
- Feed the cable into the passenger compartment.
- Release the instrument panel harness locator from the pedal bracket.
- Release the harness locator from the powertrain control module (PCM) bracket.
- Remove the LH and RH scuff plates.
- Remove the LH and RH A-pillar lower trim panels.
- Remove the pin-type retainers.
- Remove the A-pillar lower trim panels.
- Position the LH and RH front door weatherstrips (20530) aside.
- Remove the antenna base. For additional information, refer to ANTENNA .
- Position the RH front fender splash shield (16102) away from the dash panel.
- Remove the three nuts.
- Remove the screws.
- Remove the pin-type retainers.
- Position the front fender splash shield away from the dash panel.
- Route the antenna cable into the passenger compartment.
- Unseat the antenna cable grommet from the dash panel.
- Route the antenna cable into the passenger compartment.
- Remove the instrument panel steering column cover.
- Remove the instrument panel steering column cover by pulling toward the rear of the vehicle and then downward.
- Position the CJB aside.
- Remove the bolt.
- Release the tab.
- Disconnect the CJB electrical connectors.
- Disconnect the in-line electrical connector.
- Position the parking brake release handle aside.
- Remove the nuts.
- Position the parking brake release handle aside.
- Install the CJB.
- Disconnect the parking brake switch electrical connector.
- Disconnect the brake pedal position (BPP) switch electrical connector.
- If equipped, disconnect the clutch pedal position (CPP) switch electrical connector.
- Through the steering column opening, disconnect the wiring harness electrical connector.
- If equipped, disconnect the adjustable pedal motor electrical connector.
- If equipped, disconnect the adjustable pedal motor harness electrical connector.
- Separate the intermediate shaft from the steering column (3C529).
- Remove the steering column shaft pinch bolt.
- Separate the intermediate shaft from the steering column.
- If equipped, disconnect the transmission shift cable from the steering column.
- Disconnect the cable from the steering column shift tube lever.
- Disconnect the cable from the steering column bracket.
- Remove the electronic crash sensor (ECS) module cover.
- Disconnect the ECS module electrical connector.
- Remove the locking clip.
- Disconnect the ECS module electrical connector.
- Lower the glove compartment.
- Open the glove compartment.
- While releasing the glove compartment stops, lower the glove compartment.
- Disconnect the blend door actuator harness connector.
- Disconnect the climate control vacuum harness connector.
- Close the glove compartment.
- Depress the glove compartment stops.
- Close the glove compartment.
- Disconnect the RH cowl side electrical connectors.
- Remove the RH ground bolt.
- Remove the RH cowl side bolt cover (024A78).
- Remove the auto lamp sunload sensor finish panel.
- Disconnect the electrical connector.
- Remove the instrument panel cowl top bolts.
- Remove the cowl top attaching bolt covers (043C54).
- Remove the bolts.
- Remove the LH instrument panel end finish panel.
- Remove the LH instrument panel center support bolt.
- Remove the upper RH instrument panel cowl side bolt.
- Remove the lower RH instrument panel cowl side bolt.
- Remove the LH instrument panel cowl side bolts.
- Remove the instrument panel (04320).
NOTE:
The antenna cable will be removed with the instrument panel.
CAUTION:
Use care when removing the instrument panel steering column cover or damage to the cover locating tab may occur.
