Removal & Installation (2.3L)

- Drain cooling system. See COOLING SYSTEM DRAINING under COOLING SYSTEMS. Disconnect negative battery cable. Disconnect Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve connector. Raise and support vehicle. Remove driveshaft. Remove bolts retaining catalytic converter to muffler. Discard exhaust converter outlet gasket.
- Support transmission with a transmission jack. Remove 6 bolts retaining crossmember to frame. Remove 2 rear transmission mount nuts and crossmember. Lower transmission enough to allow access to EGR valve. Disconnect EGR coolant hose. Remove 2 bolts and EGR valve. Discard gasket. Clean gasket mating surfaces and install NEW gaskets. To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
