Removal & Installation

  1. Release fuel pressure. See FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE . Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove rear seat and fuel pump module access panel. Remove fuel pump module. Remove fuel from fuel tank using Tanker (034-00004) connected to hose inserted in fuel pump module cavity in fuel tank. Raise and support vehicle. Remove right rear wheel. Remove rivets and fuel filler shield. Disconnect filler hose and vent hose from filler tube. Remove muffler. On 4WD vehicles, go to next step. On FWD vehicles, go to step  3.
  2. Remove rear driveshaft. Remove differential mounting bracket-to-subframe mounting bolt. Move rear axle toward back of vehicle. Remove differential-to-bracket bolts. Loosen differential mounting bracket-to-subframe mounting bolts. Rotate brackets and move rear axle toward back of vehicle. Go to next step.
  3. On all vehicles, support fuel tank using suitable jack. Disconnect vapor hose. Disconnect fuel tank retaining strap retaining pin and move parking brake cable aside. Remove fuel tank straps. On 4WD vehicles, disconnect wiring harness form fuel tank strap. On all vehicles, remove fuel tank. To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten fasteners to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Perform leak check and monitor test. See AFTER REPAIR PROCEDURE  in EVAPORATIVE EMISSIONS SYSTEMS.
