Oil Pump: Removal

- Remove the turbocharger pedestal. For additional information, refer to FUEL CHARGING & CONTROLS - TURBOCHARGER .
- Remove the turbocharger heat shield.
- Position back the heat insulating wrap and disconnect the fuel injection pressure regulator (IPR) valve electrical connector.
- Unsnap and remove the heat insulating wrap.
- Remove the IPR valve.
- Remove or loosen the bolts as needed.
- Use a thin gasket scraper to separate the cover from the crankcase at the rear cover seam.
- Position the dial indicator with bracketry onto the oil pump drive and check the oil pump drive gear backlash.
- Loosen the bolts on the high-pressure tube assembly.
- Remove the bolts and the high-pressure oil pump.
- Remove and discard the lower O-ring seals.
- Using the special tool, disconnect and remove the high-pressure tube assembly.
- Remove and discard the high-pressure oil pump O-ring seal.
CAUTION:
Use care when removing the pump cover. The three bolts remaining in the pump cover under the EGR cooler can fall out of the pump cover and into the engine under the high-pressure pump.
CAUTION:
To prevent engine damage, do not pry off the high-pressure pump cover off the pump or damage to the cover can occur.
NOTE:
These are captured bolts and not removable.
