Removal and Installation

WARNING: Do not smoke or carry lighted tobacco or open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel-related components. Highly flammable mixtures are always present and can be ignited, resulting in possible personal injury.
  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES .
  2. Remove the engine cover. For additional information, refer to INTERIOR TRIM AND ORNAMENTATION .
  3. Remove the engine air cleaner and the air cleaner outlet tube. For additional information, refer to INTAKE AIR DISTRIBUTION & FILTERING .
  4. Disconnect the two electrical connectors and disconnect the connectors from the bracket.

  5. Disconnect the push pin retainers from the powertrain control module (PCM) bracket.

  6. Disconnect the PCM electrical connectors.

  7. Disconnect the fuel rail pressure (FRP) sensor electrical connector.

  8. Disconnect the LH radio ignition interference capacitor and cylinder head temperature (CHT) sensor electrical connectors.

  9. Disconnect the camshaft position (CMP) sensor electrical connector.

  10. Disconnect the oil pressure switch electrical connector.

  11. Disconnect the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor and the A/C compressor electrical connector. Remove the tie-strap.

  12. NOTE: The red clip must be pulled out before disconnecting the electrical connector.

  13. Disconnect the electronic throttle body (TB) electrical connector.
  14. NOTE: The red clip must be pulled out before disconnecting the electrical connector.

  15. Disconnect the throttle position (TP) sensor electrical connector.
  16. Disconnect the transmission wiring harness and the LH and RH heated oxygen (HO2S) electrical connector.

  17. Disconnect the evaporative emission (EVAP) canister purge valve electrical connector.

  18. Disconnect the heated positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) electrical connector.

  19. Disconnect the ten ignition coil electrical connectors.

  20. Disconnect the ten fuel injector electrical connectors.

  21. Remove the retaining nut and position the transmission fluid indicator and tube aside.

  22. Remove the four bolts and the RH and LH fuel charge wiring harness retainers.

  23. Remove the fuel charge wiring harness.
  24. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
